CARINA STOOD DOWNSTAIRS, impatiently tapping her foot and constantly checking her watch. She looked up the stairs, expecting her children to come down at any moment, but there was no audible movement heard. Carina pulled down her sleeve, shouting up the stairs, "Elio! Aurora! It's time to go!"
Rory groaned as she pulled her heavy trunk down each step with a loud thunk. It wasn't that she didn't want to go to Hogwarts . . . well, she really didn't. The previous night was already awkward enough, and Rory didn't want anything more to add to her hesitancy.
"Where's Father?" Rory asked Carina, expecting to see Sol standing alongside her, but he was nowhere to be seen. "I thought he was coming along?"
"Nope!" Elio followed next, a few books in hand. "He was called into the Ministry earlier, but you would've known that if you hadn't been in your room the entire morning."
"No one asked, you git," Rory muttered under her breath, and Carina glared in her direction, "Not appropriate, Aurora. You shouldn't be saying words like that."
Rory grumbled, "What if I said it in French —?"
"Aurora —"
"Bulgarian? Those Durmstrang boys taught me quite a few words —"
"Aurora you are not helping yourself out in any way. You are digging yourself further and further into a hole," Carina said sternly, and Rory stared guiltily at the floor, "Sorry, Mother. . . . Are we apparating to Kings Cross?"
Elio rolled his eyes at her question, "Obviously, Aurora. What do you think we're going to do, walk? I thought you were the smartest girl at Beauxbatons. What happened?"
"I know magic you wish you could do. You just wave your wand around and look pretty."
Finally, fed up with both of their antics, Carina hit both of them upside the head, "Stop bickering, you're acting like stupid Muggle school children. Let's go before we're late."
"I'm sorry."
"Fine," Elio said. "Just be careful who you make friends with this year, Aurora. If Mother and Father wouldn't approve of them, I'll make sure to tell the right people all about the special magic you can do."

When three fourths of the Kennedy family apparated onto the Kings Cross train platform, Rory looked around at all the families and kids that surrounded them, picking up on Elio's mutterings: "There's an infestation of them. It's bloody sickening."
