RORY'S DREAM HAD been true.
The death of Sol Kennedy came as a shock to most of the wizarding community because he had worked at the Ministry for many years and had been a highly respected individual. When Rory told Professor Dumbledore about her dream that night, he ordered one of his portraits to check in Sol's office for him and he was found, but dead. The press didn't say the cause of death was an attack by the Killing Curse because that would mean there would be a killer, and panic and chaos would ensue. However, they said he had, in their terms, "...a fatal heart attack, and when he was found, it was too late."
Rory and Elio were pulled out of Hogwarts for a week so they could attend the funeral of their father, but the girl couldn't help but not feel any sort of grief or pain. Her brother and mother both showed emotions, but Rory just couldn't. Maybe it was because she knew that she had no relation to the man and that he was never her father, or never truly acted like one. Maybe it was because all the memories of his past actions came flooding back.
Sol Kennedy never treated Aurora Kennedy like he did his son because she wasn't related to him. She wasn't his daughter. His blood. That's why whenever she acted like herself, or expressed different opinions than her family, she was punished severely.

When Rory returned to Hogwarts, she was taken aback by the plaques nailed to the wall in front of the Great Hall. Dinner had just ended when her and Elio arrived in Professor Dumbledore's office through the Floo Network. She quickly read over the words, absorbing the information that Dolores Umbridge was now the High Inquisitor of Hogwarts, by declare of the Ministry of Magic. Rory wasted no time running up the stairs towards the Gryffindor common room, sputtering out the password to the Fat Lady when she asked. The blonde was immediately greeted by the faces of Ron, Hermione, and Harry. They sat on the sofa and their heads popped up when she entered, but Rory didn't allow them to speak.
"Hey, what are those plaques?"
Ron let out a small chuckle, "Well, Rory, by declare of the Ministry of Magic, Professor Umbridge is now —"
"High Inquisitor of Hogwarts? Yeah, I know," she finished for him. "But what exactly does that mean?"
"It basically means she has almost the same privilege as Dumbledore," Hermione explained, and Rory's eyes widened. "Umbridge has been sitting in on classes and evaluating other professors to see if they're 'fit enough for the job'."
"That's horrible," Rory spoke, dropping her bag at her feet and moving towards the trio. "What else has happened?"
"Well, I can tell you what hasn't happened," Harry retorted, and Rory gave him an encouraging look. "We haven't learned anything about defense in Defense Against the Dark Arts. And especially after what happened to Sol, you'd think that Umbridge would teach more, but she hasn't."
