You never had good luck when it came to socializing and being around people.
It's not that you didn't want to be social, because honestly, you wanted to so badly. It's just that you were afraid. Afraid of rejection.
You were afraid of people judging you and turning against you. So in order to not get hurt, you decided that you'd distance yourself from others. In a way, you felt that it was the perfect solution but you also felt that it was the complete opposite.
School had always been a partial priority to you. To be honest you weren't that interested in school. So most times, you'd keep to yourself by eating alone, doing group projects alone, everything you could do with friends, you did by yourself.
But not for long...
~Morning~
"I'm leaving now!" You yelled, exiting the front door.
The weather had been quite nice lately so walking to school seemed like a good idea. As you began walking to school, you spotted a small box randomly on the sidewalk. The closer you got to it, you noticed fur peaking from the top of the box. And soon enough, a cute little kitten appeared from it.
It was a white kitten with baby blue colored eyes that immediately drew you in. What was this kitten doing on the sidewalk? And in a cardboard box?
You kneeled down and stretched out your hand to pet it. Fortunately, it was very calm and accepted you, snuggling into your palm. You could feel the coldness emanating from the poor kitten and you suddenly remembered a handkerchief you had in your bag.
Fishing it out from your bag, you gently placed it around the kitten so it would no longer be cold. You stroked its head a few more times before standing back up. You suddenly got an odd feeling that someone was watching you but as you peered around, there wasn't a single person in sight.
I have to get to school or else I'll be late. I guess I could come back for it after school and visit him or is it a her? I don't even know.
"Don't worry um...you don't have a name do you?" You tried coming up with some random names that popped into your head.
"What about tofu?" You asked as the kitty just stared blankly at you as if saying, 'Who the hell names their cat tofu?'
"Okay, how about snowball? I mean your fur is white like snow."
*meow*
"You like that name?" You said surprised that it answered to you.
"Snowball it is." You smiled. "I'll be back in a few hours so stay put, alright?" You said, staring into its blue eyes before parting for school.
~In class~
"Morning class. Today we'll be switching seats so come up and grab a slip of paper from the box." Mr. Goober announced in the most unamused, monotone voice.
He really hates his job doesn't he? But I mean, I wouldn't blame him. The mans worked here for almost thirty years. If I were him, I would've quit way long ago.
I sat up from my usual seat in the front row, lining up behind the rest of the class. Why do we have to change seats? I like where I'm at now. No distractions, just me and the lesson being taught right before me.
As the line shortened, it was finally your turn to pick your seat. You stuck your hand down into the box, letting your fingers shuffle around the slips of paper until you finally grasped one into your finger tips. You pulled it out and unraveled the small paper.
'Seat #20' You read.
You started walking around the class room searching for your desk until you spotted it. At least it wasn't in the very last row where most of the trouble makers were but it still was right next to it. Second to last row, you had the desk right by the window.
