~Chosen~

Hi, my name is Y/n L/n, I'm 16 and I live in a world where mythical creatures aren't exactly myths...and I learned that the hard way...

The town in which I was born and raised in is called Ellesmere.

It's quite a small town compared other ones but it has character.

The main town where the royal families live is called Aelcrest.

Ellesmere isn't far from Aelcrest, it's about a thirty minute drive.

I loved my town but sometimes I wish I was born in another town or even country.

Why do you ask? Well, around here, when a girl turns sixteen she's allowed to attend what we call, 'The choosing'.

I know, "The choosing?" really? They couldn't think of a better name than that?

Anyways, this "ceremony" as some would call it, is where the the prince of the royal family who will soon become king, gets to pick five girls between the ages of 16-20 from neighboring towns around Aelcrest. 

From those five girls, he will decide after a period of time who is bet fit to be his "partner" or in other words, his wife. Not to mention, next queen of Aelcrest.

I wasn't the least bit interested in The choosing. I don't want to be chosen like some kind of game show, I'd rather jump off a cliff.

"Mom, please don't make me go! I'll do anything!" You cried out.

"Now Y/n, you know that you don't have a choice and neither do we! Your father and I have been in debt for quite some time now and if you get chosen, we'll be free of all our debts. So please Y/n do this for our family." My mom begged.

I always knew that we were never stable financially but it still hurt to see my parents working their asses off day and night.

We were even grateful to afford this small house that we lived in now. If either of my parents had quit their jobs, we'd be homeless by now.

"There! All done! You look so beautiful   Y/n." My mom smiled widely.

You walked up to your full length mirror that had a small crack in the top corner.
