"Look at her, she's got a face full of zits."

"And those clothes look like she got them from the dump."

"She's not worth looking at."

"How do her parents not feel embarrassed?"

Those were the words you grew up hearing ever since you were young. Everywhere you went, you were gossiped about, ridiculed, and looked down upon. Each insult was like a slap in the face.

Eventually, you became numb to them all but the pain still resided in your heart. There were times when you felt like you couldn't take it anymore. You felt worthless, and purposeless. It felt like there was no light at the end of the tunnel.

Until you met him...

~Flashback~

It was a gloomy Tuesday. The sun was hidden behind abundant rain clouds and you were alone on the street with no umbrella.

Your mom had asked you to buy some groceries on your way back home. So here you were, walking amidst the pouring rain soaking through your clothes.

As you kept your eyes peeled to the ground, you accidentally bumped right into someone. "Sorry..." You apologize to the stranger.

"Watch where you're going." He clicks his tongue in annoyance before muttering something along the lines of "fatso" under his breath before walking off.

You sighed, continuing your way home until your bag of groceries ripped, spilling out all the food you had bought. You squatted down, trying to pick them all up from getting dirty.

As you did, a single tear drop hits the ground. Then comes another one, and another until they were spilling down your cheeks, mixing with the rain droplets. You could feel yourself breaking on the inside with each passing second.

What if a lightning bolt struck me? Maybe...maybe then I wouldn't have too live like this anymore.

All this suffering would end...

You cried your heart out, wishing for something to happen when suddenly, you felt like the rain had just stopped. You couldn't feel any rain hitting you until you glanced upwards and saw an umbrella above you.

Confused, you turned around and there he was. The light at the end of the tunnel. He was that little bit of hope you still had left in you.

"Are you alright?" The kind eyed man asked, holding his other hand out to you.

You blankly stared at him in awe. You didn't know if some kind of guardian angel had been sent to you from the heavens but to you, he seemed so blindingly bright. Like he was the sun on this dreary, rainy day.
