Reaching Gotham City

" Y/N Hunter, Y/N Hunter" I kept repeating to myself as I made my way through the busy streets of Gotham.

I decided to change my surname to Hunter, after all, it reminded me of my nana or my caretaker in other words, who passed away last year. I felt tears well up in my eyes just thinking about nana, I really missed her. I knew her being here would have helped me so much. Still, I felt pride in knowing I was using her last name but she deserved to be remembered in a bigger way than that.

As I reached the Gazette, I felt as nervous as ever. I was worried about anyone recognizing me or me blowing off my cover by saying the wrong name. I was 50% confident, despite staying all flight long repeating "Hunter" to myself and imagine introducing myself to others.

The city seemed to dull compared to National City, I could barely feel the sun heat hitting my skin because of all this wind and humidity. This made me miss home a bit, but my heart was already set on finding a new life.

As I entered my new job, I got suddenly distracted by the sound of sirens and a horde of cop cars which caused me to trip. My fall was stopped by bumping into a tall blondish red-headed woman, making her drop all her coffee on her self. I was beyond ashamed.

" I I- am so so sorry Miss..." I said looking at the stain left behind in her silk shirt which I knew was expensive.

"Vale, Vicky Vale, and you are here because..?" the woman said seriously as ever.

" Y/N Hunter, again I am so sorry Miss. Vale" I said mentally celebrating because I didn't screw up my fake name.

"Oh, the new girl huh? You made quite a first impression, Miss.Hunter."

"shiiiiet" I mumbled under my breath. This woman was the new editor in chief aka my boss and I had just screwed it up.

" Don't worry dear, first day jitters, we have all been through them. Seeing you are here now let me introduce myself properly. Follow me please." she said with a totally different expression on her face.

I sighed and followed her, gladly she didn't look as angry as before.

"Take a sit Y/N," she said as she sat on the opposite end.

"Welcome to the Gotham Gazette, where crime, corruption, and a bat are our best selling topics," she said as she wiped her stained shirt with a wet cloth.

I smirked at her description of the gazette but confused as to what she meant by a bat.

"Um, Miss. Vale, what do you mean by a bat?" I asked shyly, embarrassed at the thought that I didn't know shit about Gotham besides its terrible weather.

" I see, a reporter in Gotham and you don't know about the bat"

My whole body tingled, I wouldn't last a day here.

"Don't worry, I guess you are not from around here." she chuckled.

My stiff body returned back to normal as I heard her telling me not to worry. I sighed in relief.

"So Gotham, as you know, has plenty of crime and crazy people," she said ironically.

"A man running around in a bat suit is one of those crazy people, except he is one of the "good guys" you might say. He fights crime and defends Gotham but in a bat suit." " Am I making any sense?" she looked at me like if I was a toddler learning how to speak.

"Yes, I guess, a vigilante in a bat suit. That's kinda ridiculous, but if you say he is good then who am I to talk bad about it" I said as I tried to fully grasp what she had just explained.

Ms.Vale turned around with a serious face almost as if she was thinking about something. Immediately as I was about to speak she interrupted me saying.

"You know what Y/N, you should come with me tonight to this gala at the museum, that way I can show you the ropes and you can socialize and learn more about Gotham. Even maybe get to see the batman yourself tonight, villains always like interrupting events like this for no reason at all, and the bat is always there"

Did she just imply we MIGHT get attacked at a gala? W T F with this woman. I guess that's what good reporting looks like, putting my life in danger for a story.

"Are you sure it is safe to go? I mean I am totally accepting the offer because it is a great learning opportunity but I --" I failed to finish before she interrupted me.

"Totally safe, don't worry it is a 40/60 chance it might happen, and if it does we have the bat, and Hunter is ready by 7, ill pass by your house in the company limo."

I nodded as I wrote down my address in a piece of paper she handed me.

" and Y/N,  formal attire, look your best, don't disappoint me on your first outing," she said looking down at a stack of papers she had to revise before publishing.

"Got it, formal attire, 7 out the door, Thankyou again Miss. Vale" I said getting no response back.

I left the room and looked for my desk. My first task was to sort through papers and alphabetize them, I guess I was going to do that all day and wait for night to come.

I worked until my day was over, and headed back home to get ready. I was nervous because for the first time I will be out the spotlight and putting it on other people.
