About a month later, Alex and I went back to school. It was still cold, so I wore skinny jeans, a short sleeved shirt, a sweatshirt over it, and my sneakers. We got into the warm car, and for some reason, I was nervous. Well, like an excited kind of nervous. The drive seemed shorter than usual. All I did was look out the window.
The orange, yellow, red, and brown of the dead leafs falling. It's weird how the death of something can be so beautiful at the same time.
When we finally got there, I was really excited. We got out of the car and walked to the courtyard, hand in hand. People were happy to see us. Hugs, 'welcome back' cards, and more. It wasn't that bad, actually feeling wanted. It was fun until the first bell rang. The rest of the day was pretty much boring as usual. It came to 6th period and it was probably the most boring class. The teachers voice just droning on and on, reading paragraph after paragraph.
Then suddenly, there was an announcement over the speaker in the classroom. "This is a lockdown, I repeat, this is a lockdown."
My heart stopped and I looked over at Alex. "Maya... Come with me," he said. I got up and he took my hand and we ran to one side of the classroom. My heart was pounding and Alex was hugging me, whispering, "Maya don't worry. Everything will be okay as long as we're together."
