Chapter Forty

(Vinny's POV)

"So, when did this start sweetie?" We were seated in a room with two police officers, neither related to Marko. "Um, yesterday. But when we broke up, he said I would regret it. And he texted me several times threatening to hurt people close to me. And today, he slapped me in the hallway because I wouldn't kiss him." Gab said, beginning to choke on her tears. I took her hand in mine, and rubbed her plam. "Okay sweetie. We're going to need your phone for evidence." The lady on the right, who was doing most of the talking, took out a plastic bag, and stuck out her hand for Gab's phone. She reached into her pocket, and pulled it out, then laid it in the officer's hand. "Thank you." The officer put it in the plastic bag, and zipped it up. "We're going to go through the evidence and determine what to do with this case.  Until then, we suggest you stay home, there's an alternate homeschooling program you can take. If things escalate farther, please come back. We really hope everything gets better sweetie." She smiled. "Alright, thank you." Gab nodded, and got up. "Gab, go ahead out, I need to ask the officer some questions." I said. She nodded, and went to the waiting room with Al. "Yes sir?" She smiled at me. "Is there any specific time estimate on how long this investigation will take? That girl out there is my best friend, I saw her cry and get abused myself, and I don't ever want her to go through that again. He deserves to be locked up." I said, my eyes tearing up. "Well, it's not guranteed exactly how long it will take. And, we can't lock him up, because he is only a minor. But, we will try and get through this as quickly as possible, we understand this is hard for everyone." She said, placing a reassuring hand on my shoulder. I nodded, and thanked her, then went outside to the girls. We all got back into the car. "Al, I'm so sorry you had to use so much gas on me today...." Gab said. "Baby, it's perfectly fine. I'm just glad this whole thing is being taken care of." Al smiled. Gab offered Al a small smile, and then cuddled into my chest. I sighed, and rubbed her arm. "Vin, thank you so much..." She said. "For what baby?" I asked sheepishly. "For still being here for me after everything we went through..." Gab said. I shook my head, and leaned down to kiss her forehead. "Don't thank me. Thank you for allowing me back in your life. I love you so much and as your best friend it's my job to protect you. Now close your eyes and rest. You've had a hard day." I said, laying her head in my lap. She smiled up at me. "I love you too. Wake me up when we get back to your house..." She closed her eyes, and soon enough she was softly snoring. I smiled, and kissed her forehead. Finally, she's okay, and things are being taken care of....
