"Delilah you can't keep getting in trouble like this." My mom scolded me on the way home from school. I just ignored her. "Delilah answer me." She said a little more sternly. I still didn't answer. "Delilah!" This time she yelled, causing tears to sting my eyes. "I know!" I yelled back. "Well than answer me!" She screamed. "I just did" I retorted. She scoffed. "Delilah you have three seconds to lose the attitude or else..." She warned. I chuckled. "Or else what?" I tested her. She thought for a moment. "Or else I'll take you back to the orphanage." She finally got out. My eyes went big but I didn't say anything. I couldn't believe she had really just said that. My hurt turned into anger and I said "Fine. Take me back. Now." She looked shocked but she nodded. Wait is she actually gonna do it? "Okay then. I'll take you home to pack your stuff." She whispered. I nodded my head. We went back home and I was about to scream out that I was just kidding but I wasn't able to. I can't let her think that she's won. And besides, she must not care about me that much if she even had the thought of taking me back. I ran up to my room and threw all my stuff into my big purple suitcase. I was about to cry. "C'mon Delilah please..." my mom said under her breath but I followed her out to the car pretending not to have heard it. "I guess let's go." She said while starting the car. "Yeah...let's go..." I said. About 20 minutes later we reached the orphanage and she stopped in front of it. "Aren't you gonna get out?" I asked her. She just sat there for a couple minutes but then nodded. We went up to the lady at the front desk. "Welcome! How can I help you? Are you looking to adopt?" She asked. My shook her head. "Um actually no. I think I would like to return Delilah." My mom said hesitantly. The smile on the woman's face faded. "Well then I guess I'll get you your papers." She said and walked through a door behind her. I didn't make any eye contact with my mom. After around two minutes my mom gently took my arm and turned me around. "Are you sure you want to do this Delilah?" She asked. I thought for a second but then said "yes." My mom just let go of my arm and turned away. Then the woman came back out with a stack of papers. "Here you are." She said quietly. My mom took around ten minutes until she finished the paperwork and handed it back to the woman. Then she looked over at me with tears rolling down her cheeks and pulled me into a hug. "I'll miss you." She said and then walked out the door. "I'll show you your room Delilah." The woman said. I just stood there staring at the door that my 'mom' walked out of. I thought about running after her and asking her to take me back but instead I just followed the woman up a flight of steps. "And here it is." She said walking into a small room with a bed, a closet, a window, a small desk, a bathroom, and grayish blue walls. I walked in and sat on my bed. "Thank you." Was all I managed to say as she walked out of the room. As soon as she left I got out my razor and gave myself six cuts on each wrist. I screamed into my pillow as the blood ran down my arms. I cried for twenty minutes until I fell asleep. I woke up to the sound of somebody knocking in the door. It brought back memories of the day when my 'mom' adopted me. "Delilah?" It was the woman from the front desk. I opened up the door. "Yeah?" I asked. "Honey go ahead and get dressed. Some people here are interested in adopting girls your age group." She said. "Okay." I said and closed the door. I quickly got ready just throwing on the first things I could find. I pulled my hair up into a ponytail and wiped the mascara from under my eyes. I redid my makeup and then pulled my sleeves down to cover my scars. I walked out of my room and started to walk down the stairs when I bumped into a guy who looked to be around 19 or 20. He had pink hair and a lip piercing. "Oh my gosh I'm so sorry." He said. I fake smiled. "Your fine." I told him. "Wheres your bathroom?" He asked. "Um I'm not sure actually. I just got here last night." I said. He looked disappointed. "But you can use the one in my room!" I quickly said trying to cheer him up. His smile came back and he said "okay!lets go!" We walked up the stairs and to my room. We talked about ourselves. I discovered his name was Sam and that he had a YouTube channel called 'our second life' with five other guys. I told him that my name was Delilah Autumn Rose and that I was 14. He asked me how I got into the orphanage but I told him that I didn't want to talk about it and he said he understood. Finally we reached my room and he ran into the bathroom. I looked over at my bed and saw that my pillow was covered in little blood stains and my razor was laying next to it. I screamed and Sam came running out to see what was wrong. "What?!" He asked frantically. Then he saw what I was looking at. I started bawling. He gave me a hug and took my arm. He pulled up my sleeves and looked at my wrists. They were covered in dried blood and scars. "Sh it's okay." He cooed into my ear. I sniffled. "I'm sorry." I said. He gave me a weird look. "For what sweetheart?" He asked. "Just for putting you through this. I wish you would of never even seen this. Just go ahead and go back downstairs to interview some people with your friends." I said. "But I want us to get you.." He said with a smile. "C'mon I want you to meet Connor, he would be the one adopting you." He said. I smiled and followed him down the steps.
