Songs written into books...
Are terrible.
I never read them, I never will.
I can at least appreciate songs created and written by the author. Especially when it's as a means of world building or foreshadowing or plot explanation, etc. Thats dope. That's cool.
Having your character perform the entirety of a Twenty-One Pilots song on page????
Decidedly less cool.
Not only is it awkward and, more often than not, slightly embarrassing to read, but it also totally drags me out of the story. Now, I'm thinking about the internal consistency of your story and like, wow, how weird is it that this urban fantasy with mythological gods and ghosts and demons has developed similarly enough to our world that not only do the members of imagine dragons exist, but they're still calling their band that despite living in a magical world and they still got wrote the smash hit Radioactive.
I'm writing this a 4 o'clock in the morning and I think I'm actually losing my mind.
Idk if anyone else can relate to this. Maybe it's just me? But, yeah it's definitely a personal pet peeve.
