Escape

Adrien stood before his father, as disappointment flooded the air. With every attempt to ease his cold-hearted parent's suffering, he only seemed to fall deeper into the unrelenting pit of melancholy.

He had given the boy one last chance, but just like the countless times before, he had failed.

The hopelessness only magnified as he caught a glimpse of the inhuman fury that hid behind the eyes of the man he called Father.

The old man's patience ran thin as he looked at his son with an unreadable expression. Adrien could feel the tension intensify as the man calmly walked towards him.

There was no way that he was getting out of here alive. He would have to sit and watch himself fade away, as his father murdered the last fraction of his heart that remained.

As the unsteady footsteps became louder, the teen mentally prepared himself for what was coming. His heart raced and salty water flowed over his skin.

When ice met fire, Adrien's knees became weak as shivers ran down his spine. His father rested a firm hand upon his son's shoulder while he stared daggers into the eyes that held so much innocence.

The darkness had once again returned. When green eyes met blue, fear had instantly wrapped itself around the poor boy's shattered heart.

"I hope you didn't disappointment me this time. Now hand me the miraculous before I loose it!"

Adrien couldn't move. His mind was screaming for help, but his body would not cooperate. He reverted his gaze to his empty fist, and shut his terrified eyes.

"I... I don't have it, father." He honestly admitted.

His grip tightened against the young man's shoulder as his internal warfare began to show itself. His naturally blue eyes had never looked so dark. It was like looking into the eyes of death and agony as Adrien's pure soul tried to counteract the evil that rested within his father.

"You don't have it?" He seemed calm and collected, but he was definitely hiding something.

Unfortunately the tranquility was very short lived.

The beast was released and it showed itself. The rage that had been bottled up for all of those very lonely years flowed out of Gabriel's being as his fist slammed against the boy's chin.

Tears instantly fell from the teen's eyes as he looked at the man who was once filled with so much love and compassion.

He was unable to move a muscle. He just stood there, while his hand unconsciously brushed over the stinging flesh.

He took a step back when his father turned his back away from him.

His trembling hand locked upon the doorknob as he watched the demon take control of his father. Those eyes were no longer his father's, they were cold and they were unknown.

As the door opened, he turned around. He sprinted to his son and banged his fists above the boy's head. The boy cried out into the night, but the sounds were instantly lost above the loud thumping of his racing heart.

Darkness consumed his mind as the pressure around his neck became deadly. His vision blurred, and all that he was able to see was the small lights from the twinkling stars that danced above him.

This was it. He felt himself dying in the arms of the man that was no longer his father.

As all hope had just about shattered, the grip around his neck weakened. What felt like an eternity had only lasted a moment.
