Chapter Five

*Angelisa*

"Angel!" Kate screeched when she saw me walking to my locker this morning. "Angel, LOOK at that boy over there!"

"Kat you know I'm not looking for anyone right now, and probably never will be." I muttered the last part so she couldn't hear it.

"Just look!" She exclaimed, pointing across the hall. So I turned and looked, and dang was he good looking. He was tall, had beautiful blue eyes, blonde hair that he had flipped up in the most perfect way, and those dimples!

"Zayum." I said to Kat unintentionally. "Wait, did I say that out loud?"

"Yeah." She giggled. "He's so attractive!"

"I'd be lying if I didn't agree with you." I laughed. "But," I dropped my eyes to the floor, "he's not Braden."

"I know Angel, but you aren't going to find another Braden. I'm not telling you that you have to forget him, but didn't you promise him you'd try to find someone else?"

"Yeah but..." I trailed off.

"But nothing." She paused to look over at the new guy. "And also he's staring at you."

"What?!" I turn my head slightly to meet his eyes. He flashes me a perfect smile, and turns back to the friend he was talking to.

"Go talk to him!" Kat exclaimed.

"What?! No!" I exclaimed back.

"Angel!" She whined. "Pleasssssee? For me?" She gave me the puppy dog face and I giggled a little.

"Fine," I started waking, "I have no idea why I'm doing this." I heard her laugh as I approached him.

"Um hey," I started as he turned to face me, "I couldn't help but notice that you were staring at me."

"And I couldn't help but notice that you're beautiful." He smiles. He has an accent that makes me feel attracted to him for more than his looks. "The names Hemmings, Luke Hemmings." He extends his hand. I shake it, and give him a small smile returning the James Bond line.

"Islea, Angel Islea."

"Angel huh? That explains your flawless skin." He smiles again and I can't help but stare at his amazing dimples.

"Um, thanks but..." I trail off not sure what to say next.

"I mean it. Anyways, this is my friend and bandmate Calum Hood."

"Hey, wait so you guys are in a band?"

"Yeah, it's us and two other guys. All four of us just moved here a couple weeks ago from Australia." That explains the accent.

"Wow! Well welcome to California!" He opens his mouth to reply, but I hear a girls screech from behind me.

"Angel!!" I turn to see my friend Melissa running up to me. "OMG no way are you actually talking to a boy!?" She throws her arms around me, while Luke and Calum burst out laughing.

"Melissa!" I push her arms off of me.

"Dang he's fine." She extends her hands to Luke. "I'm Melissa Keler."

"Luke Hemmings." He replies still laughing.

"Um, well I think I'm going to head to class..." I begin to turn and walk away, but Luke grabs my wrist and I stop dead in my tracks.

"Wait, I'll walk you there." I freeze, my heart stops. I make eye contact with Kat across the hallway and she rushes over.

"Angel? Um, are you alright?" She grabs my hand that Luke isn't holding on to, and he comes around to face me. When he sees how frozen I am he quickly let's go of me.

"I, I'm sorry, I didn't, I didn't mean to-"

"She's fine, don't worry." Kat says.

"Yeah, she'll be okay." Melissa agrees. "You two can head to class, we'll calm her down." Luke looks at Calum who just nods his heads and they walk away.

"What's wrong with you Angel!?" Melissa cries.

"I..." I try, but I can't formulate a sentence.

"Melissa!" Kat yells. "Don't be so hard on her!!"

"But she just blew off an extremely hot new guy!"

"Yeah, because all she could think about was Braden!" Kat practically screams. The whole hallway all of a sudden gets silent and a few people look our way.

"Guys it's not a big deal, "I say, breaking the silence. "I just haven't felt attracted to anyone since, since-"

"We know." Melissa starts, "and I'm sorry for freaking out. I just got excited since he was clearly hitting on you."

"Did you just say that your attracted to him!?" Kat exclaims.

"Maybe...?" I reply while staring at my feet.

"OMG Angel this is big!" Melissa screeches.

"It's nothing you guys." I throw my hands out to my side and walk away from them just as the bell rings. I don't need to have a boyfriend right now. I know that I had promised Braden that I'd try to find someone but... Every time I talk to a guy my heart beats too fast, my brain shuts down, and not in a way like when I fell in love with Braden. In a way that makes me scared and upset. I want to shut them out. I guess I don't want to get attached to anyone again, because I don't want to lose them. So now that I'm feeling a slight pull to Luke, I'm scared. That's the most I've talked to a guy in a really long time. I decide to shake it off for now, and maybe I'll forget about him.

I walked through the door to my first period class and the first person I see is none other than Luke. So much for shaking it off. I find my way to my desk which is in the third row from the front and is two rows back and one desk over from where Luke is sitting. I pull out my math book and try to focus on the pages, but I can feel eyes on me. I glance up and meet Luke's beautiful blue eyes. I pull my head away. I don't want to think his eyes are beautiful. I don't like him, no, no I do not.

I feel his gaze on me for the whole entire class period. When the bell finally rings, I try to gather my stuff quickly and get out of the room before he can come talk to me, but I drop my stack of books on the floor.

"Ughhh." I whine.

"Here let me help you." All of a sudden Luke is next to me picking up my books.

"I don't need any help." I try, but he already has all my things picked up.

"Here." He hands them to me with a smile. "Hey I'm sorry about earlier, I didn't mean to make you freak out."

"It's whatever." I don't make eye contact with him, instead I stare at his shoes.

"Look, I'd really like it if we could hang out sometime," he offers, "if that's cool with you."

"I um... I don't know..." I trail.

"Just say yes." He puts his hand under my chin and points it up so I'm forced to meet his gaze.

"Um, yeah I guess."

"Cool," he drops his hand, "are you busy after school today?"

"Woah, um, t- today?" I stutter.

"Well yeah, why not?" He shrugs.

"Um, I, I don't know if... Well I mean, I guess I could but, I don't know-"

"Angel," he cuts me off. "It's okay, you don't have to be nervous, it's not like a date."

"Um... Sure I guess today is fine." I give in. I know I won't win no matter what I say.

"Great! I'll let the guys know that we won't practice today. Meet me here after school." With that he flashes me a smile and heads off to second period.
