Chapter Nine
*Luke*
"This is it." She tells me as we get to her driveway.
"Cute." I comment. The house has tan shingles and there are plants strategically placed all the way up to the fountain by the garage. There is also exposed brick around the door.
"Seriously?" She asks laughing her perfect laugh.
"What?"
"Well most guys don't use the word 'cute' that often." She laughs again.
"Well," I start, "I'm not most guys." I give her a smile that she half returns while getting out of the car. As we walk through the front door, I have to say that I'm impressed. The inside is very modern and smells amazing.
"You can hang your keys on the key rack." She tells me.
"Mom?" She calls while walking around the corner into the kitchen.
"Oh good Angelisa, your home." Her mom turns around from the sink and hugs Angel. Their hair is the same color but her moms is shorter, and their eyes are similar, though Angel's are lighter.
"Angelisa?" I ask a little confused.
"Oh." She says running a hand through her hair. "That's, um, that's my real name. I just go by Angel."
"I like it." I say genuinely. "It's beautiful." I see her blush slightly.
"Who's this?" Her mom buds in.
"Oh," she looks up at her mom, "right. Mom this is Luke. He just moved here from Australia." Her mom extends her hand and I shake it.
"I'm Karen." She replies. "Welcome to sunny California." She smiles.
"Thanks." I laugh slightly.
"So what did you need me to do again mom?" Angel asks.
"I'm meeting my new company tonight, and if all goes well they are coming over for dinner tomorrow. So I'd like you to bake a cake for them." She explains while grabbing her purse and phone.
"Ugh, okay fine." Angel sighs.
"Okay so I'll see you later tonight!" Karen yells on her way out the door.
"Okay..." Angel replies even though her mom is already out the door. "You thirsty?" She asks me while she grabs a glass out of the cupboard and fills it at the sink for herself.
"I'm good." I reply as she begins to walk down the nearest hallway.
"You can follow me." She giggles and I realize I'm still standing in the kitchen while she's at the stairs.
"Oh, sorry." I run a hand through my hair following her down the stairs. She turns a corner and enters a room, which must be hers. She sets the water down on the nightstand and walks over to the mirror, straightening out her skirt. I sit down on her bed and look around. I see a gray Disney World sweatshirt laying on the bed, and it's obviously not hers, it's way to big.
"Who's sweatshirt is this?" I ask grabbing it from her pillow.
"What-" but she stops as she turns and sees the sweatshirt in my hands. Her face instantly gets pale and her hands start shaking.
"Give that to me!" She says defensively, snatching it out of my hands. She shoves it into her face and inhales slowly through her nose.
"Um...?" I begin.
"It's nothing." She murmurs quickly. Hugging the sweatshirt to her chest.
"Was this that ex boyfriend's you talked about earlier?"
"Don't say that!" She screams at me. Then she slowly sits down on the bed and begins to cry.
