Splatoon x Male Reader: Back Then

Chapter 1: First Day

I'm going to assume that you, as the reader, know how the inserts such as "(Y/N)" work, but for the basics: (Y/N) means "Your Name", (M/N) means "Mother's Name", (F/N) means "Father's Name", and Parenthesis mean it's a character's thoughts.

(Y/N) POV

(Y/N) was laying down in his soft mattress trying to go to sleep. Over the course of the summer, he tried maintaining a normal sleep schedule, knowing how hard it is to get back to one but was ultimately unsuccessful after the first couple of weeks of summer, and now, his parents told him that he better be up and ready by 6:30 A.M. or else.

He sighed, rolling over, not feeling tired at all, until suddenly, his phone on his nightstand next to his bed vibrated. Realizing he wasn't going to sleep any time soon, he reached over and grabbed his phone checking the notification, seeing it was a message from his friend Veronica. Veronica was his friend who was two grades below him, meaning that when he went to ninth grade tomorrow at the high school, she'd still only be in seventh grade at the middle school. She was an Octoling with four shoulder-length tentacles, light red ink, dark skin, and grey eyes.

Veronica: Are you up?

(Y/N): Unfortunately.

Veronica: You up to talk?

(Y/N): I'm honestly not that sleepy, so sure.

----------

A few seconds later, he answered her call as he was just lying on his side and plugging his headphones in.

(Y/N): Hey.

Veronica: So, you can't sleep either?

(Y/N): Of course not. That's always the problem with the last day of summer.

Veronica: Well, maybe if you had actually stuck to your schedule you'd be fine.

(Y/N): It was you that kept me up late!

She giggled.

Veronica: But you chose to stay up.

(Y/N) sighed.

Veronica: So, are you nervous?

(Y/N): Well, of course, I am. New school. New people. And you're not going to be there either.

Veronica: Aww, don't worry; we'll still be able to hang out outside of school. And in a couple more years, I'll be there too.

He smiled at that.

(Y/N): Thanks, but hopefully I can make some more friends until you get here.

Veronica: Just try not to be a jerk.

The two laughed.

(Y/N): So...

Veronica: So?

(Y/N): Wanna play video games?

Veronica: Of course.

(M/N): (Y/N)! Get up! It's almost time for school!

(Y/N)'s mom shouted from downstairs.

(Y/N): Huh?
