PRISON TAKE OVER

I was swinging my bat as I carried on down the middle of the back road. My pack was currently full of water bottles and some food. I was in the mist of trying to find the others, since our last post, they left only a couple minutes before I got back. Daryl always left me some sort of trail to follow when that happens.
I kept my eyes and ears open as I continued down the road. I stopped when I heard the familiar rumble of a motorcycle. I turned in every direction, trying to pin-point it. Through the woods, half a klick. I burst into a sprint as I made my way through the woods and towards my group. I skidded to a stop when I saw them. I let out a long high-pitched whistle.
"She found us already," Beth questioned.
I smirked as I trotted my way down to the cars.
"That was fast," Daryl stated.
"Only 10 minutes better than the last," I shrugged.
"Lucky enough for you, we were about to get ready to clear a prison," Glenn joked.
I smirked, "sweet."
We all climbed into the cars as Daryl and I took point on his motorcycle down the road towards the prison. We parked on the road and walked around to a point in the fence to break into to clear it out.
Rick started making a hole in the fence while we covered.
"Watch the backside," Rick ordered.
"Got it," Lori replied.
A tension has been between their marriage since we left the farm. Everyone climbed into the walkway besides Rick and I.
"Hurry. Hurry."
I quickly climbed through and Rick soon followed suit. Daryl and Glenn rushed to tie it close as a walker landed face first at the finished closed hole. We started running down the side with walkers on both sides of us chasing us. We came to the front gate. Everyone set down their packs but I and we surveyed the area.
"It's perfect," Rick panted, "if we can shut that gate, prevent more from filling the yard, we can pick off these walkers. We'll take the field by tonight."
"So how do we shut the gate," Hershel asked.
"I'll do it," Glenn offered, "you guys cover me."
"No," Maggie denied, "it's a suicide run."
"I'm the fastest."
"No," Rick agreed, "you, Maggie, T-dog, and Beth draw as many as you can over there. Pop 'em through the fence."
Rick pointed to a certain section and started giving people spots. Daryl was to go back to the other guard tower with Carol. Which was an interesting combination. Hershel and Carl would take the tower nearby. Rick turned to me.
"I'm all ears Boss," I stated.
Rick looked between Daryl's retreating form, the gate, me, and then at Lori. He sighed.
"June and I will run for the gate," Rick reluctantly stated.
I dropped my bag and bat, adjusting my crossbow. I smirked at Rick.
"Daryl's not gonna be happy."
"I know."
"But he'll be reluctantly okay with it."
"Yeah...that's what scares me."
A quick smile graced my face as Lori nodded at Rick and I. Him and I have done a couple runs before that went exceptionally well, along with Daryl. I looked at Rick.
"Run for the tower Rick. I'll get the fence."
"Cover?"
"You know it."
Lori opened the gate for us and Rick and I sauntered out. I held the clips tightly as my knife was held in my other. Rick and I started running, Rick shot while I ran beside him. Once we got closer, we broke off. Rick headed straight for the tower while I went for the gate. I quickly kicked one back and shoved the gate closed.
I spun around and quickly knifed a walker and climbed into the tower, shutting the door behind me. I panted before climbing the stairs. Rick turned to glance at me.
"Fire in the hole."
Rick chuckled before Daryl ordered to light it up. Everyone started firing. Daryl and I let arrows fly left and right while the others used guns. It was a quick sweep and we did have the field by night fall. Rick and I climbed down from the tower and joined the others in the field. Getting ready for clean up duty.
"That was dumb of you," Daryl grumbled, walking past me.
I smirked before turning and quickly smacking Daryl's ass. He quickly spun on me.
"Aye!"
I fled the crime as I ran behind Hershel, peaking out to see a frustrated and flustered Daryl.
"Ember," Carl called, "c'mon, we got walkers to clear out."
I gave Daryl one last fleeting smirk before helping Carl with some walkers. Any arrows I saw, I just pulled them and kept them on me. Daryl and I would go through our stack to sort out who's arrows were who's. Except one, we each have one of each other's arrows that we never use unless we have to. Like if the entire group gets split up.
By dusk, we had the bodies in a pile and the cars rolled up to the front. We all sat down at a fire to eat some food. Daryl was on watch and I'd have Carol give him food since he likes to be a shithead sometimes. Usually I do it, unless I did something to piss him off that day, like today, I'd send Carol.
"Mmm. Just like Mom used to make," Glenn stated.
"Burnt," I questioned, giving half my share to Carl.
"Oh, ha ha," Maggie sarcastically rolled her eyes.
I snorted and turned back to Rick making another round around the perimeter.
"Now, if we can dig a canal under the fence, we'll have plenty of fresh water," T-dog informed.
"And this soil," Hershel offered, "is good. We could plant some seed, grow some tomatoes, cucumbers, soybeans. That's his third time around. If there was any part of it compromised, he'd have found it by now."
"He's thorough," I shrugged, "let him be thorough. Sometimes you can miss something the first or second time around."
"This'll be a good place to have the baby," Beth informed Lori, "safe."
I sigh quietly. Ah yes, nothing like having a baby born in a prison. Sounds like a wonderful plan. I swallowed my comments and thought about the pros instead of the cons that wracked my brain currently.
I heard laughing and looked over at Carol and Daryl. I smirked slightly at their conversation. It was light-hearted and easy going. Something all three of us usually have.
"I'll go down first," Daryl commented.
"Even better," Carol joked.
I chuckled. She must've been jokingly flirting with him. She usually did that between Daryl and I, and sometimes Daryl and I did it to each other. Like earlier when I smacked his ass. It was an innocent jester on a normal basis, but since he was a bit pissy he was a bit frustrated.
"Stop."
I had to cover my mouth with my hand to stop from laughing at the tone of Daryl's voice. Everyone looked at me like I'd grown a third head but I just shook my head andpointed to my ears.
I looked over at Daryl and Carol as they started making their way over. I gave a kissy face to both of them. Carol gave it back while Daryl just scoffed, ears obviously burning.
"You two are like a plague," Daryl grumbled.
I smirked as Carol and I nodded at each other. They both walked up and sat next to me.
"Beth," Hershel sighed, "sing Paddy Reilly for me. I haven't heard that since, I think your mother was alive."
"Daddy, not that one, please," Maggie requested, knowing Beth was going to get emotional.
"How about The Parting Glass?"
"No one wants to hear," Beth retaliated.
"Why not," Glenn asked.
"Okay."
Beth started singing and it reminded me of my mother and how she used to sing for my brother. I'd always hear it from my room, it was to taunt me. To let me know who was the favorite child. But I loved hearing her sing, even if it was just to my brother. Because I loved my mother's singing voice, and that was it. I relaxed on the only good memory of my parents.
"Beautiful," Hershel commented.
"Better all turn in," Rick stated, "I'll take watch over there. Got a big day tomorrow."
"What do you mean," Glenn asked.
"Look, I know we're all exhausted. This was a great win. But we've got to push just a little bit more. Most of the walkers are dressed as guards and prisoners. Looks like this place fell pretty early. It could mean the supplies may be intact. They'd have an infirmary, a commissary."
"An armory," Daryl asked.
"That would be outside the prison itself, but not too far away. Warden's offices would have info on the location. Weapons, food, medicine. This place could be a gold mine."
"We're dangerously low on ammo. We'd run out before we make a dent," Hershel stated.
"That's why we have to go in there...hand to hand."
I peaked up. I could do hand to hand. I loved hand to hand. I'm the most excelled at hand to hand.
"After all we've been through, we can handle it, I know it. These assholes don't stand a chance."
I watched Rick stand up and start walking away and Lori soon followed. I knew better than to listen in. I flopped down as my head hit my pack. I glanced at Daryl who lay next to me before he laid the blanket over both of us. I nodded and fell asleep in a whip. I was exhausted. From being up from dawn to now? Tomorrow wasn't going to be my highlight of the week.
