WE STRUGGLE, NO MATTER WHERE
50 Miles Away from Home—Daryl's Group (Roof)
Daryl, Michonne, Tyreese, and Bob had made it out of the walker's reach, climbing to the roof. Of course, Bob is reluctant to let go of the pack the walkers below them have ahold of.
"Bob, let it go," Michonne reasoned.
Except he wouldn't, and when they had managed to pull him up with the pack. They heard the noise. The sound of bottles. Not medicine. Daryl walked over and pulled one of the bottles out of the pack. Flashes of June back at the prison came to his mind, her pale, clammy skin, her sunken in eyes that seemed to start to dull. The June he saw once during winter. Anger flushed through him.
Angry not just at the virus that spread to his girl and her best friend—but the fact that Bob grabbed drinking alcohol instead of meds. People were dying, and Bob had only thought of himself in Daryl's eyes.
"You got no meds in your bag," Daryl nearly growled out, "just this?"
Bob looked slightly guilty by Daryl's words as he panted.
"You should have kept walking that day."
Daryl went to throw it and Bob had reached for his gun.
"Don't," Bob ordered.
Daryl stopped his throw and turned towards Bob, obviously angry by his jester. He knew of one gal, that if she was here, that would've tackled Bob to the ground and growl in his face for even trying to threaten him, but no, she had gotten sick.
Daryl had gotten into Bob's face, very up close and personal. If he wanted to threaten him, he was gonna give him a reason not to think about threatening him again. Daryl pulled the gun from Bob's holster and grabbed Bob by his shirt. Tyreese and Michonne both could see what was about to go down.
"Just let it go, Daryl," Tyreese called, "the man's made his choice. Nothing you can do about it. Just gotta let it go."
Daryl gave in and let Bob go. Not because Tyreese told him too. He did it because he had to make sure June lived. Like he said before, she wasn't gonna die. It wasn't a bang, it was a damn whimper.
"I didn't want to hurt nobody. It was just for when it gets quiet."
Daryl roughly shoved it into Bob's chest—still glaring daggers into what he hoped was Bob's soul.
"You take one sip, before those meds get in our people, I will beat your ass into the ground. You hear me?"
Daryl turned back to the other two before picking up his crossbow and continued on.
"We're comin' home Red. We're comin' home, and we're gonna be okay," Daryl thought, "we're gonna be okay..."
50 Miles At Home—The SickHershel, Glenn, and Sasha worked hard to make everyone survive while June was out cold. She wasn't dead, no, that's something everyone could cover from her chest softly rising and falling every few seconds, but she was slowly getting feeling back and waking.
Hershel and Glenn had finished their rounds when Hershel went to talk to Maggie for Glenn.
"How's June," Maggie sighed.
Hershel stared at his daughter with conflicted eyes. He wasn't sure if he could break it to his daughter that her best friend, might not survive before Daryl and his group returned. Maggie started to worry and new tears formed on Maggie's face.
"Daddy?"
"She's fine. She'll survive," Hershel stated, unsure if he was speaking the truth...or a lie.Come the following day, it was hectic. Caleb was getting worse, one man had died and Sasha was out cold...and there were walkers. June's cell has been closed since she's been in it. She had suddenly shot her eyes open from a gunshot. June had finally awoken that evening.
June had sat up in bed and pulled open her cell door, stepping out and turning towards the chaos. Lizzie was guiding Henry out of the cell and away from Glenn, June rushed towards the girl to aid her as she fell.
June had made it just in time and shoved Henry right off of Lizzie as Hershel came rushing forward.
"You okay," June croaked, barely feeling her throat.
"I called him nice," Lizzie commented, "he didn't scratch Glenn. I thought maybe he listens."
"Lizzie," Hershel panicked, "where is Glenn?"
"His cell."
Hershel guided Lizzie back to the kid cell. June followed after. Hershel turned towards her.
"How are you feeling?"
June had touched her cheeks and under her eyes before her throat and tilted her head in slight confusion, shrugging it off innocently. Signing away, since her throat felt raw.
"I feel fine. Glenn's the important one right now. We have to hurry."
Hershel and June rushed to aid Glenn. When June laid eyes on Glenn, she nearly wanted to cry. Seeing the blood trail out of his mouth and his wheezing. June didn't know how to feel.
"June, you stay here. I'll go get what we need."
June nodded in silent agreement. She didn't know what they needed, so the best she could do was assist Glenn in not dying.
June had heard all the shouting, rustling, and gunfire but didn't move an inch from Glenn's side. She had latched onto his hand with a tight grip.
"You were there for me," June thought, "I'm gonna be there for you, you Korean asshole."
June turned to the sound of rushing footsteps and looked up at a worried Maggie. She raised her hand that was clutching his to hers, urging her to take it. Maggie stayed by his head, so June lowered her hand.
"He's turnin' blue!" Maggie yelled.
"Clear the air wave, I'll be there in a minute," Hershel called.
Hershel rushed in with the CPR based item. There were a lot of orders being told and a lot of rushing to aid. June had released Glenn's hand and helped Maggie hold Glenn as they moved him into position by order of the current "doctor."
The three managed to get air into Glenn's lungs and June sat against the wall tired beyond compare. She turned her gaze to Hershel.
"I don't know what happened to you June...you seem to one moment be fine, to getting terribly worse than others, but then make a slow recovery, like your body knew what it was doing."
"And I was only out for about a day? I—shouldn't I be dead?"
"Yes, so to speak. You were considered one of the first in here to go down. Yet, you never succumbed to the symptoms. It was like your body knew to fight until the last minute. Yes, it did help that we gave you elderberry tea but not as much as the others...but you still survived."
"We're proud of you June," Maggie commented, glanced at her best friend, "definitely surpassed anything I would've expected of you."
June smirked before throwing around hand signs.
"Gee, how comforting to hear that Maggie. I'll keep that in mind the next time something happens."
Hershel and Maggie shared a laugh as June smiled in return to the humorous aura enveloping the air.
"Man, was it good to be awake," June thought, "to finally be awake."Outside, the Grimes' boys were cleaning up their mess when a car rolled up; Daryl, Michonne,Bob, and Tyreese.
"Sasha," Tyreese first questioned, "how's Sasha?"
"I don't know," Rick responded honesty, "I'm sorry."
"Get in there," Daryl ordered, "we got this."
Although, all Daryl wanted to do was run in and see his girl, he had a job to do first and he wasn't about to hear her bitch on how he was slacking on his duty. That was one thing he didn't wanna hear.
Once they all got situated, June had left the cell Glenn was in and sat in a cell with Daryl; holding each other close.
"I thought I lost ya," Daryl mumbled into June's hair, kissing it softly.
"You almost did," June thought.
June hugged Daryl tighter, deciding not to tell him about the fact that she had been unconscious for about a day. She didn't want him to be worried that she wasn't going to get better. But she was, and she was the worse of them all.
"Caleb was wrong," Hershel thought, thinking of the miracle June had just done, "at the end stage, they can come back."
Bob had walked into her cell and gave her the medicine needed. She winced but that was it.
"I think you'll make a quick recovery," Bob commented, "especially with how quick you came back."
Daryl tensed in confusion while June tilted her head. June never thought about what her blood was doing inside her flesh, other than feeling like she was burning alive. June just nodded in reply and cuddled closer to Daryl. Daryl relaxed once he set his gaze on a tired and weak looking June. Daryl hugged June closer to him, though they were as close as could be before resting his head on top of hers; she sighed in content. June had closed her eyes and fallen into a beautiful sleep instead of her unconscious state. Something she knew she'd wake up from.
