We begin walking back home, after having met up with the rest of the hunting group after they failed to catch the boar they were chasing. Charlotte continues walks ahead of me, playing with the knife Bellamy gave her, but I protectively keep an eye on her.
I hear someone approaching me and look to my right realising it's Bellamy. I instantly turn back around. "You alright?" He asks me. I turn to face him and roll my eyes. Last time he acted like he cared, he watched proudly as Murphy and Wells tried to kill each other. I'm not falling for that again.
"What do you want?"
"I was just being polite." He pauses. "You shouldn't have been out in the woods, Ariel, you know that."
"We didn't go too far out, and hey, you were there. If a grounder came along I'm sure you could handle them." I offer him a fake smile and he hands back a glare.
"You shouldn't be bringing a kid out here. With a knife or not."
"Whatever."
"Ariel," He grabs my arm, stopping me in my tracks and forcing me to look at him. "I'm being serious." He deadpans and I roll my eyes, planting a more serious look on my face.
"I'm not going to listen to any of your rules or what you tell me to do, so don't even try it, Bellamy." I glare back at him. "Especially after what you said about Jasper."
"What you don't agree with me? You literally left camp because of his screaming, clearly some part of you does." His eyebrows furrow and I shake my head.
"The grounders clearly dislike us and we need as many people alive as possible if we're going to fight them. And besides, we don't give up on our own." I pause "If it were Octavia on that bed would you be saying the same thing?"
He remains silent, yet doesn't get angry at me he stares down at me. I open my mouth to continue the conversation only a loud noise in the distance towers over my voice. I turn around and my eyes widen at what I'm seeing. A huge yellow cloud forces animals to run out of that part of the forest. Bellamy grabs onto me turning me around and putting both hands on my shoulders. "We need to go. Now." He says to me. I nod and all of us run, I grab onto Charlottes hand, following Bellamy after he calls out he knows the way to caves.
We manage to find the caves and me, Bellamy and Charlotte hurry in, pushing a rock on the entrance.
I slide down the rock, blocking the entrance, panting after having run rapidly from what would have been led to my death- again. "You ok?" Bellamy says to Charlotte and she nods, sitting in the corner of the cave.
He turns to me and I nod, rising to my feet and going over to Charlotte, kneeling besides her. "You sure you're ok?" I ask concerned for her wellbeing. She nods again and I also lend a nod in return, before sinking into a corner of the cave, furthest away from Bellamy Blake, knowing it's going to be a long night if I'm stuck in here with him.
"What the hell was that?" He questions breathlessly.
"Acid fog I think. It probably won't be clear until morning." I answer, having read about it in earth skills.
He turns and looks to Charlotte. "Get some rest."
She looks at me as if for approval and I nod at her as she makes her way to the corner of the cave, as I finally re-catch my breath, sitting opposite the last person in the universe I'd want to be stuck in a cave with.
