The Game of Love

Chapter Sixteen

For the past month I have been very distant from Antonio because of what my grandma said. But none of that seems to matter to Antonio because he is never home to notice. He gets home in the middle of the night and doesn’t even sleep in the same bed with me. I kind of just moved into the guest bedroom so I wouldn’t inconvenience him any longer. He has been so caught up in whatever job he is doing, he barely even notices me. So since he seems to be tied up with something else I finally agreed to breakfast at my grandma’s even though I know Kameron will be there.

I just got out the shower and now I am trying to find something to wear. I have to find something to wear that will make Kameron notice me and see what he is missing. As I was looking I found a dark purple dress that was perfect. It wasn’t fancy but causal that fitted my body at the top but went wide at the bottom. In the back it had my heart cut out that showed a little of my back. I put on my black wedge heels to match and parted my hair down the middle and then curled it. I looked myself over in the mirror and decided to put on a hint of lip gloss. I grabbed my purse and keys and headed out the door.

I arrived to my grandma’s and saw Kameron was already here, which made me instantly nervous. I got out the car and slowly made my way into the house. When I got in I could instantly smell food that hit my nose. I just let the food guide me and found myself in the kitchen. “Mmmm grandma it smells good in here,” I said going for a piece of bacon.

“Girl you know damn well not to touch my food until everyone is at the table,” she smacking my hand. “Ow grandma. Who are we waiting for then?”

“Well, Kameron is upstairs with yo brother, but we waiting for his girl to come.”

“I didn’t see Dee’s car in the driveway and what girl,” I said sitting down at the island counter. “Yea, that brother of yours decided he wanted to get his car customized so it’s gonna be in the shop for a while and I haven’t met the new girl yet.”

“What he doing to his car?”

“Child I don’t even know, he said some foolishness about tinted windows, rims, and some other none sense,” she said turning around to put the finished food on the table. When I finally saw her face, she looked worse than she did in the hospital. Her face looked tired and she could barely move around. “Grandma are you ok?”

“Yea I’m fine, just getting old that’s all,” she said finally reaching the table to set the plates. “Grandma I can do that. Why don’t you just sit down and rest a while,” I said taking the plates out of her hands. I started to put the plates on the table followed by the spoons, forks, and glasses. “So where is Mr. Antonio?” I could tell she was being nosey by the way she said his name. “He’s doing business,” was all I said before continuing what I was doing. “He was too busy to eat breakfast with your family?”

“Look grandma, having him here under the same roof as Dee and Kameron probably isn’t a good idea. They almost killed each other at the hospital.”

“He still should’ve came.”

“Who should’ve came,” Kameron said coming into the kitchen. I looked up at him and he was wearing black Levi jeans and a red polo with the matching Jordan’s. “Nobody,” was all I said before looking back down. “So grandma when can we eat,” he asked going over to hug her. I always adored the fact he was so close to my grandma. He was practically family and she loved him. I could never see Antonio being that close to my grandma, maybe because she never liked him. “When Dee new girl get here we can eat.”

“Well, until she arrive imma go up to my room,” I said leaving and going upstairs. When I reached my room it felt weird. I couldn’t make myself walk in for anything. I just felt like I didn’t belong anymore. “Why won’t you go in,” I heard someone say. I looked up and saw Kameron standing beside me. “Just doesn’t feel right.”
