The whole ride to the hospital I was a nervous wreck; I kept trying to tell myself that Kelsey was okay but deep down I knew better. Every time someone I loved went into the hospital, something always went wrong and I couldn’t lose Kelsey too. The whole way Kameron was silent and got me thinking. “Did you sleep with her,” I asked turning to face him. “Who,” he asked frowning but still looking at the road. “Kelsey.” His face fell blank like I had struck a nerve but then recovered. “Why?”

“Look I’m not going to get mad but I know something went on between you two.”

“Why you say that,” he asked still looking at the road. “Because whenever I say she is coming somewhere with us you get all mad and irrational.”

“No I don’t, I just don’t like her.”

“And why not?”

“Because I don’t, just drop it.”

“Look I know you think by not telling me is the best way but it’s not so just tell me, did you sleep with Kelsey.” He sighed and pulled up to the hospital and parked. He turned off the car and sat back, “Fine we almost slept together but we didn’t.”

“What do you mean almost?”

“It was when you went on that date with that nigga Vince and she was at yo place. I came over looking for Dee but he wasn’t there so I decided to chill wit ha. Next thing I know ole girl straddling my lap and kissing all over me.”

“Ok…so what happened?”

“First off, she is yo best friend and I didn’t want to do that to you, I felt like that was disrespecting you. Second, I didn’t have feelings for Kelsey I had feelings for you. I thought if I slept with her it would jeopardize any chance I had of being with you.” Damn I didn’t know it was that deep. “Then why don’t you like her if nothing happened?”

“When I told her no she got all mad saying how I already slept with half the school so why stop now and all that shit. I also felt that a best friend wouldn’t act like that if she knew you had feelings for me.”

“So you don’t like her because you think you are protecting me?”

“Something like that; I’m not saying she is a bad friend but ever since that night when it comes to her I always keep my guard up in case she gets out of line.” I sat back in my seat thinking about what he said. Why would Kelsey try to sleep with him knowing I had feelings for him, I would never do anything like that to her. All of a sudden anger took over making me forget what we were doing. “Hey,” Kameron said taking my hand. “Don’t over think it; I’m pretty sure she is a different person now. Everyone has to go through bad times but let’s go in and see how she is doing.” I nodded my head making a mental not to forget what was said.

We walked into the hospital to see the waiting room practically empty. I walked up to the counter to ask the receptionist about Kelsey. When we walked up the receptionist instantly started to eyeball Kameron like he was a piece of food. I looked up at him to see he wasn’t even paying her any of attention as he typed on his phone. “Excuse me!” I said snapping my fingers. She jerked her head towards me and looked me up and down. “Unless you have a problem with I suggest you stop looking me up and down and do yo damn job before you don’t have one. Now will you tell me about Kelsey Richman.” She rolled her eyes and started to type something in the computer. “She is still in surgery,” she said looking up and back at Kameron. I nodded my head and pulled Kameron to the waiting room.

“What’s wrong now,” he asked me when we sat down. “That receptionist,” I said nodding my head towards her. “What about her?”

“You didn’t see her eyeing you up and down?”
