I woke up shivering

I woke up shivering. Freezing winds blew into my room from the window I left open last night. Although Sylvia's fruity aroma aired out, it was now unbearably cold. With the blanket wrapped tightly around my body, I pushed myself off the bed and walked over to the window. I pushed the window down and locked it shut. There were goosebumps lining my arms from the coldness inside the room.

I made my way over to the nightstand, where my backpack was sprawled on top. I opened the bag and pulled out a maroon zip up hoodie, throwing it on under my leather jacket. My hair was lazily thrown up into a high ponytail as I tugged my black army boots back on. I reached under my pillow and grabbed my switchblade, tucking it into its place in my back pocket. After zipping up my backpack and draping it over my right shoulder, I walked to the door and left the room, locking it behind me.

As I stepped into the hallway, I noticed how calm and quiet it was. The booming music from last night wasn't blaring from downstairs, and there wasn't any chatter from multiple conversations. Buck's place is actually pretty nice in the morning.

With each step I took, the stairs creaked softly throughout the bar. I hopped off, skipping the last few, and landed on the wooden floor. The entire room was completely empty. I strolled over to the bar and leaned over the counter, tapping the silver, service bell a couple times. An exhausted groan came from the back room, where Buck emerged from the darkness yawning. I chuckled and smirked, "Wow.. you look like shit."

Buck rolled his eyes. "Thanks," he remarked sarcastically.

"And you wonder why I don't drink," I said. Buck rubbed his eyes as he walked over to me from behind the bar. He grabbed an open liquor bottle on the counter that must've been leftover from last night, and took a large chug of the drink. I raised my eyebrows skeptically. "Haven't you had enough?"

"Between you and my hangover, I can't decide what's more annoying," Buck replied.

I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms over my chest. "Haha, real funny."

Buck smirked and continued to drink more of the alcohol. He paused and nodded curtly to me. "Why are you up so early?"

"I'm a morning person," I shrugged. "Also, I wanted to ask if you knew where I could get a good cup of coffee."

Buck scratched his head. "I think the Dingo has coffee, not sure how good it is though." He took one last chug of his drink, tossing the empty bottle in a trash can behind him. "It's right down the road from here," he added.

"Thanks," I nodded and smiled before making my way towards the door and leaving Buck's.

Outside, it was beyond cold. I couldn't wait to drink a piping hot cup of coffee. I haven't had one since I visited James. He's probably pissed that I broke another promise. In all honesty, I really was going to pay that tab. It's the least I could do after he helped me awhile ago back in that alleyway..
