"Now we blew it," Ponyboy sighed as Johnny and I sat back down.

I turned around to face him and shrugged. "You think so?" I asked Ponyboy. He glanced up at me and nodded. "Well I say, that couldn't have gone any better," I said cheerily. Johnny laughed softly at my remark.

"He had me scared to death," Cherry interrupted. She frowned at the thought of Dallas.

"Well, you sure didn't show it," Johnny said. He shook his head and then looked at me with wide eyes. "Nobody talks to Dal like that."

"Clearly," I huffed. I let out a deep breath. "Jeez, he looked like he was about to rip my head off!" I exclaimed. Johnny and I shared a laugh, while the others just nodded along smiling.

The brunette girl, who I have yet to learn her name, faced Ponyboy and Johnny. "Why don't y'all come and sit up here, so you can protect us?" She batted her eyes and smiled at the two boys, who just shared a look and shrugged before getting up and climbing over the seats.

I rolled my eyes and scoffed as I moved into the empty seat beside me, letting Johnny sit next to the brunette. "I don't need any protection," I mumbled under my breath. I've always hated when people just assumed that I was some weak and helpless girl. I'm fully capable of taking care of myself, and I don't need help from anyone else.

"So," Johnny spoke up. "How come y'all ain't scared of us like you was of Dally?" He asked the two soc girls.

Cherry scoffed and sent the boys a warm smile. "You two are too sweet looking to scare anyone," she said happily. I wondered if she thought I was some scary or crazy greaser like he was. "Besides," Cherry sighed. "I know about Dallas Winston.. You two don't look mean."

Ponyboy rolled his eyes. "Yeah, right," he scoffed. "We're young and innocent," he exclaimed sarcastically.

"No," Cherry shook her head, disagreeing with him. "You're just not dirty."

"Is that what you assume about all greasers?" I asked Cherry curiously. She glanced at me, but quickly looked away, ignoring my question. Her silence gave me my answer though.

"Come on, Dal's okay," Johnny said with a shrug. "I mean, he's tough and all, but he's a cool guy if you get to know him." I chuckled at that. What could possibly be cool about Dallas Winston?

"He'd leave you alone if he knew who you were," Ponyboy said to Cherry.

She shrugged absently. "Well, I'm glad he doesn't know us.. I kind of admire him."
