Sweet scents of hot cocoa and chocolate cake filled the air as the lights on the Christmas tree we cut down and stole twinkled sporadically. The tv played a black and white Mickey Mouse Christmas special, which Two-Bit insisted we turn on because he was still injured after the fall while we were ice skating. Because it was Christmas Eve, we all decided to do Secret Santa and exchange gifts with one another. The idea was Ponyboy's and we all thought it was a pretty good one, so each of us chose names out of a hat and bought gifts. I picked Darry's name and I instantly knew what I was going to give him. I had no idea who chose my name, but I was super excited to find out.

Since tonight was Christmas Eve, that meant that it was also my seventeenth birthday. Although I had mentioned it to Dallas a few days ago, he seemed to have completely forgotten, which kind of sucked in all honesty. I know I didn't want anything big, but I at least expected him to wish me a happy birthday. Nonetheless, I was still in a very good mood and happy to be here and celebrating with my friends.

We were all gathered in the living room, sitting in various spots either on the couch or on the floor with food and drinks placed on the coffee table. The chocolate cake was already half eaten by Steve and Two-Bit, along with the almost finished eggnog, which mostly just consisted of alcohol.

"Who wants to go first?" Ponyboy asked, his brown eyes met each of ours as he glanced around the room. Everyone varying presents next to them, wrapped messily in old newspaper and duct tape.

"I'll go," Two-Bit said. He smiled as he pulled out a small, rectangular object from behind him. Two-Bit smiled and passed the present to Ponyboy. "This is for you, Pony."

Ponyboy began to pull the newspaper and duct tape off carefully from his mystery present. As he unwrapped Two-Bit's gift, his lips turned upwards into a small smile but delighted smile. Ponyboy held up a brown, leather journal with his initials engraved in at the bottom right corner of the cover. The notebook looked pretty expensive so I was impressed by Two-Bit's gift. Ponyboy glanced at Two-Bit before running his hand and fingers along the cover of the journal. "Gee, thanks, Two!" He said with a smile still on his face.

Two-Bit returned the expression and nodded thoughtfully. "Of course, Pony. You're the genius of the group anyway. I better see some damn good ideas in there!" He laughed.

"You got it," Ponyboy chuckled as he put the notebook down. He picked up his other gift from beside him and passed the wrapped item to Johnny, who accepted it with an excited expression.

When Johnny unwrapped the present from Ponyboy, he was completely taken aback and surprised by the new pair of black Converse he was gifted. His eyes wondered over the new shoes like they were the holy grail of shoes. "Thank you, Pony!" Johnny exclaimed.

After thoroughly admiring his shoes, he pulled out his present for Steve, which was a new comb and some hair gell. While Johnny was already trying on his brand new shoes, Steve had ran to the bathroom to do his hair (again).
