"let's have another toast to the girl almighty"
or
in which another Miranda takes over the world, and a boy's heart, by storm.
BOOK 2 IN THE PRETTY SHINING PEOPLE SERIES
"and that is exactly why I am here today." her voice carried all the hope and strength she had passed in the speech. "I am here today because we are the future. all of us have a choice right now to get up and do something about our world. this planet is ours for the taking, it is up to you and me to change things. to quote one of my favorite movies, be bold. be strong. be proud. thank you and good night."
loud applause followed her until she sat down, only to begin again as Emma's speech ended. every detail of Youth For Change was clear to all those who were a part of it. that moment in special was everything, to relive it while sitting in front of Jimmy Fallon was another thing entirely.
"so this moment was it." Jimmy remarked when the video was over.
"yes. I'll never forget that second, I just remember thinking that I could no longer be silent. so many lies were being said by outsiders about my home and my mom said: if it makes you that angry, do something about it." her English was flawless, though some words still carried a little accent.
"and you did! I remember watching your videos for the first time on YouTube and now they are part of a Netflix series."
"that is something I can't really wrap my head around yet." discreetly, the girl placed her hands in way to avoid fidgeting. "on Youth For Change I had the opportunity to meet so many people that like me refuse to be silent. and what we realized is that this is not a movement about politics, it is about creating a better future. about leaving a positive legacy for whoever comes next."
"I couldn't say it better myself." Jimmy and Nina shared a smile before a stage assistant gestured to their timer that showed how little they had left. "and the beauty of this, specially about your journey I think, is how everyone can be reached. you make yourselves understandable."

"mas esse é precisamente o objetivo de qualquer movimento sério." his confused look made her realize the mishap. "I spoke Portuguese, didn't I? It happens sometimes. I just meant that being understood, and more: being heard, is what activists look for. and our journeys make us relatable, they make people see themselves."
"I wish we could stay here for a lot longer but before we move on, tell us: what's next for Nina Miranda?"
