Silence.

"What's going on?!"

The slight buzzing from the other side was one of the few things he could hear. Mixed with panicked voices and buzzing with screams, he could hear frantic voices on the other side. Heart racing and head spinning, he felt himself lower to the ground in a crumbling mess. He had no clue on what had happened, just that the static from the call had already explained that something was wrong.

Without any further hesitation, he ran out of his apartment, winding through hallways of doors to reach the exit. Could he have used the Mononokean? Yes. He could; but at this time, he had intention to.

Taking off through the windy streets of the city, he felt his chest heave with effort as he sped past the crowds of people on the streets. Hair swept back from the wind and leaves falling through the air, he brushed past multiple stores in search for the place he was looking for. He had never taken the full chance to get to know the city by heart due to the use of the Mononokean. Even as his lungs strained for air he pursued onwards, turning at the supposed stops. Never once looking back, he had no clue if he was overreacting. Maybe it was nothing. Maybe it was just his head. Maybe it was all a dream. But was it?

When the endless cycle of screeches had escalated, he escaped to a nearby alleyway with his chest tightening at every breath he took. Covering his ears, he could hear the shouts fade into the distance as he sat down on the side of the road. The air he was unaware he was holding escaped his throat as he turned to look at the crowd once again.

"Citizens, calm down! We are currently looking into this issue! We do not have any information but we reassure that we are doing our best to help all of our patients," a female voice spoke softly.

"Well do better! We need to talk to our friends and family!"

    What?

"We are doing our best to sustain all patients, but we need to have time. We can't rush any processes that have already been previously interrupted."

It was pointless wasting his breath to come. No one could get in, and no one could get out. Nurses were frantic as the people slowly moved in to close themselves upon the glass doors. Sirens shrieked as they came closer, and people chanting out at what they saw. It was hopeless to come, if he couldn't do a thing.

    "Mononokean, come."

He slipped through the small wooden door and pulled himself into the tea room. A small chime rang out.

    "You weren't at your apartment?"

What could he have said to hide the truth? He normally wouldn't have moved an inch.

"I went on a walk. I needed to clear my head," he responded,"I guess I didn't notice how far I went."

The bell chimed quietly before he slid away into his room once again.

As the sun cascaded it's pink and orange colors down onto the hills, he stared at it with wondering eyes. What could he have done to improve the situation? Was there something he could do? Could he have done something to make his life better? He didn't know.

With a heavy heart he sunk into his covers and closed his eyes, waiting for sleep to pull him into a vicious nightmare once more.

It was blurry as if it were only a dream, but it felt as if it was a memory, burned into his mind. In the forest where trees stood to the greatest heights imaginable, birds sang and critters happily played. A small stream gently flowed past, with leaves gracefully swaying in the breeze. A sweet scent drifted through the air as a small yokai wandered through the forest. It's long pointed ears twitched as it searched. With a small stature, the yokai sprung around on it's four legs with it's paws covered in the underbrush. There, a teen smiled his usual cheerful smile as they stood on the cliffside of a waterfall. It wasn't far from the ground, but was slippery from the waterfall the cascaded behind it. Squeaking with delight the yokai bounced upwards before losing its balance and tripping over the smooth stone. In response, the boy with raven hair dove after the small yokai, grabbing it in his arms before hitting the sharp and jagged rocks below them. Without a moment to lose, the master sprinted down the sides of the cliff, meeting the nearly unconscious employee and fearful yokai.

The iron substance that poured into the clear waters had tainted it, before washing away downstream. Now was the time where they sent the yokai off, and took a trip to the city; where the employee now lay unconscious under the supervision of those that cared for the weak.

As the memory seemed to fade, he opened his eyes to dark ceiling above him, and the window carrying the silhouette of the curtains that covered it. The moon rose high into the sky, with stars shimmering in the moonlight. He shook his head, feeling the sting of tears in his eyes before climbing out of his bed. Opening the door to the small balcony he had, he closed his eyes and felt the wind blow through his hair once again. As much as he didn't want to be heard, what else could he do?

"Don't cut me down, throw me out, leave me here to waste. I once was a man with dignity and grace. Now I'm slipping through the cracks of your cold embrace. So please, please..."

Staring into the night sky, heaving a sigh. Eyes glittering in the moonlight, he never noticed the footsteps through his door.

"Could you find a way to let me down slowly? A little sympathy, I hope you can show me. If you wanna go then I'll be so lonely..."

" If you're leaving, baby, let me down slowly~"

Flipping around, he stared in awe at the person in front of him. Bright blue eyes that gleamed in the night, and a smile that never wore off, his heart swelled as he picked him up.

    "Ashiya!"

A gentle toss and spin in the air and the younger male was back in his arms, smiling brightly.

    "Mmph!"

If anyone could tell him that he was insane, he was. Frankly, he didn't mind.

"How are you- I went to the hospital today and-"

With a smirk, Ashiya leaned forward with a kiss, effectively shutting down the sentence.

"I woke up earlier today, and I guess I didn't realize how long I was out... sorry about that. But, the doctors said I was free to leave and then the power went out. The sprinklers turned on and my bandages came off. So, I heard the riot outside the hospital while they bandaged me up again. And, here I am. The Mononokean let me in. It guess it knew what was going on."

Abeno stared at the boy in front of them. It was hard to tell, but bandage wraps were tied on his forehead and arms, and he was sure there was most likely more he couldn't see. However, he didn't mind. All he had was the person he valued in his arms once again, and that was all the closure he needed.

Author's Note: As you may have noticed, I've done it. I've surpassed 1000 words(not including this Author's Note) and I hope you liked it! There are actual lyrics in this story and as the name suggests, it's a song from Alec Benjamin called,"Let Me Down Slowly". I wrote this all pretty rushed, so I do hope that this is alright and please notify me if there are any mistakes! That being said, if you can also tell the writing style difference, I may or may not have actually typed this with high hopes so... Yay... That being said, thank you for reading!
