بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم

The command of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala came down upon Hadhrat Ibrahim Alaihissalaam to slaughter Hadhrat Ismail Alaihissalaam.  Hadhrat Ismail Alaihissalaam was ready and Hadhrat Ibrahim Alaihissalaam  was trying to slaughter him, but Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala made it easy for Hadhrat Ibrahim Alaihissalaam and substituted Ismail Alaihissalaam for a sheep.

The command given to Hadhrat Ibrahim Alaihissalaam was to slaughter his son. Today, we can understand what a difficult command this is. Similarly, it was a difficult command upon Hadhrat Ibrahim Alaihissalaam from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala to slaughter his son who was thirteen years of age.  The age where he was of help to his father.

However, Hadhrat Ibrahim Alaihissalaam became ready and subservient to the command of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. This was a test from Allah. Allah did not want him to slaughter Hadhrat Ismail Alaihissalaam.
The Asl Hukam of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala is for us to slaughter our son in following Hadhrat Ibrahim Alaihissalaam.

Allah made it easy for us. Instead of slaughtering our sons, we slaughter goats. Technically, according to the demand of Imaan, we have to carry out whatever command Allah gives us. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala knew this is a weak Ummat and will not be able to bear the command of slaughtering their sons.

That is why the command from the beginning was not to slaughter the son but a goat or sheep. Remember the goat or sheep was supposed to be your son, but it is Allah’s Ehsaan, he made it to be a goat or sheep.

Why was the command given for the son to be slaughtered?
All parents’ Khwaishaat, desire is their son grows up to help them in the house and earns for them. The desire is more with the son than with the daughter.

In reality, Hadhrat Ibrahim Alaihissalaam was not told to slaughter his son, but his desire, Khwaish of the Nafs. The desire of the Nafs was connected to the son.
Today, although we are not slaughtering our son, but goats or sheep, hence symbolically we are slaughtering the desires of our Nafs.

We are slaughtering the Haraam desires of our Nafs. This is the Maqsad and reason of Qurbaani. The animal itself is not Maqsud. The animal represents our Nafs. When we are slaughtering the animal, Inshaallah we make sure or try to slaughter ourselves our goat on Eid and not give somebody else to slaughter our animal.

While slaughtering the goat, as the knife is cutting into the neck and the blood flowing, then keep in mind;
This is the blood of my Nafs which is flowing. I am cutting the neck of my Nafs and not the neck of the goat.
It means now we are promising Allah symbolically;
Ya Allah, I am promising You, that whenever my Nafs is going to make a demand which is against Your command, Ya Allah I am going to slaughter my Nafs and I am going to uphold Your Hukam and command. I am not going to follow my Nafs. I will let the Nafs bleed, just like how we let the goat bleed.

The flowing of the blood symbolizes the flowing of the blood of our Nafs. Ya Allah, I will let my Nafs bleed. The heart actually bleeds when you go against the desire of the Nafs and heart.

For the sake of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, I am ready to do it. Ya Allah, whatever command You are going to give me, I am ready for it.
