Tarbiyat - Importance

*The Importance Of Tarbiyat In our lives.*

Tarbiyat means Islamic nurturing.
*Another name for Tarbiyat is Tazkiyatun Nafs.*
Tazkiyah means purification of the Nafs.

It is only through Tarbiyat and Tazkiyah that our entire Deen will get life.

Today we have Deen but we only have the Surat of Deen. We do not have the reality.

The apparent outside form of Deen is there, but the reality is missing.

The whole effort of Tazkiyah and Tarbiyat is to bring this reality and Ruh into our Ibaadat.

To understand this, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala has put the Nafs into each and every Insaan.

Nafs means a person's Haraam desires - the evil self.

The nature, Sifat of this Nafs is,

ۚ إِنَّ النَّفْسَ لَأَمَّارَةٌ بِالسُّوءِ
_Innan nafsa la ammaratun bissuu'_

*'Definitely this Nafs is a very big commander of evil.'*

From this we get to know that Nafs is something which is evil and it takes a person towards evil.
If Nafs is evil and takes a person towards evil then why did Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala put it into each and every Insaan?

Allah has sent us into this world as a test. Our lives from the beginning until the end and from when a person becomes Baaligh up until the end is a test.

Allah is testing us who will be successful in this test and who will be able to reach Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala, achieve the Maqsad of life and build the connection with Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

For this test Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala has put obstacles which we have to overcome and defeat, otherwise if there were no obstacles and enemies then this test would not have been a test and every person would have become a Wali of Allah very easily.

As a test Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala puts into this Dunya, worldly life, enemies for us.
One of them is Nafs which is the biggest enemy and which is with us all the time.

The other two major enemies are;

• one is shaytan
• and the other is Dunya.

The Nafs is the biggest enemy because Nafs is the father of Shaytan and Dunya.

Our effort is to subdue and tame the Nafs and get control of the Nafs.

Once the Nafs will come into control then automatically shaytan will be under control and Dunya also will be under control.

Once a person has Nafs in his control, then that person will easily reach Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala and make a connection with Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala...

What is stopping us and coming in between is the Nafs. We take control of this Nafs and take it out of the way, then the road to Allah is cleared...
That person then immediately establishes the connection with Allah. That is the Maqsad for a person - to become an Allah Wala - a Wali, a friend of Allah.

That person who subdues and tames his Nafs, gets control of his Nafs so that Nafs no longer commands him towards evil. He makes his Nafs do only good. Therefore he has achieved the Sifat of Taqwa....
