LOVE FOR ALLAH

The Love of Dunya is the Root of all Evil*

بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم

Take the example of a road. A person while crossing the road decides to settle in the middle of the road. He builds for himself a nice place to rest and sleep. He begins to paint and decorate the road.
What will happen to him?
A car will come and crush him.
This is the Haal of that person who is making his abode in Dunya. He wants his home in Dunya as a permanent resting place. He is making an effort on his Dunya and building his Dunya. Whereas his Aakhirat is in ruins.
A person who is not worried about crossing the road, but sits in the middle of the road to settle there will be crushed and destroyed.

Once the Sahaba Radhiallahu Anhu came to Nabi e Kareem Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam when he had just woken up.

His bed was made of the date palm leaves.
Hadhrat Abdullah bin Mas’ud is narrating;
We saw the date palm leaves had made an imprint on his Mubarak back.
When the Sahaba Radhiallahu Anum saw this, they could not bear due to the extreme love they had for Nabi e Kareem Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam which was unimaginable. They could not bear the slightest of Takleef he had to go through.

They started crying. They requested Nabi e Kareem Sallallahu Wasallam to allow them to make a bed for him.
Nabi e Kareem Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam replied;

  مَا لِىْ وَ الدُّنْيَا
Maaly walid dunya

What have I got to do with this Dunya?
What connection, Ta’alluq do I have with Dunya? Why do you want to make me a bed. My example in this Dunya;

مَا أَنَا فِى الدُّنْيَا إِلَا كَرَاكِبٍ إِسْتَظَلَّ تَحْتَ شَجَرَة ثُمَّ رَاحَ وَ تَرَكَهَا
Maa ana fiddunya ila qara kibin istazhallah tahta shajarat thumma raaha wa tarakaha

My example in this Dunya is nothing but a rider on a journey. I get down from my animal to rest under the tree for a few minutes. Then I will get back up onto my animal and continue my journey.
My Haal in this Dunya is my resting under the tree.

Our Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is taking Dunya to be as such, then what about us? We have made our lives permanent in this Dunya. We do not want to come out of this Dunya. The reason we hate Maut is because our hearts are attached to this world and this is destroying our power and unity of Muslims 

A famous Hadith of Nabi e Kareem Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam;
It is very close, the eaters are going to call each other towards the Dastarkhan to eat. They are going to go around you and eat you.
They are going to call each other to destroy you.

The Sahaba were Heraan and Pareshaan. How is this possible? It was unimaginable for them because they were ready to sacrifice their lives. They were always victorious due to the Nusrat of Allah.
Therefore, they were surprised to hear this. How is it possible? How will the Kuffaar come around and destroy the Muslims?

At home, when the food is already laid on the Dastarkhan, some are already seated while others are somewhere and have to be called to eat as the food is ready.

In the same way, the food has already been laid on the Dastarkhan which is you and I, the Muslims. They are calling each other to come and destroy the Muslims which is happening in the world for a long time.
The Sahaba could not imagine this to happen because they did not know Muslims like us could exist in the world.
Our Ulamaa say; if today the Sahaba were to get up from their graves and see us, then they would not be ready to accept that we are Muslims.

The Sahaba were judging us according to their own Haal. they could not understand, so they asked Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam;
Is it going to be due to our low numbers?

They thought perhaps Muslims will go so low in number and the Kuffaar will be a lot.

Nabi e Kareem Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said; no. Rather on that day, you will be a lot. You will be in your billions.

Today, Islam is the biggest Deen in the world. In christianity the different sects are considered as different religions. Catholic, Protestant and other sects are considered a religion on their own.   
However, what is the example of Muslims? Although they will be a lot, but the numbers will not help them because they will be like the foam on top of the sea. The foam on top of the sea is a lot but it is filled with air. There is no reality or weight to it. You put your hand through it and it disappears.

You will be Muslims on the outer form. Your names will be Muhammad and Ahmad but in your heart will be the love of Jack and John.
The Sahaba Radhiallahu Anhum became very scared and upset at hearing this.

Nabi e Kareem Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said;
On that day, the Raub, fear the Kuffaar have for you today, will be removed. They will no longer fear you.

The reason he gave was; in your hearts on that day will be Wahn.
The Sahaba asked; Ya Rasulallaah, what is Wahn?
Nabi e Kareem Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said;

حُبُّ الدُّنْيَا وَ كَرَاهِيَّةُ الْمَوْتِ
Hubbuddunya wa karaahiyatul maut

Love for Dunya and dislike for death. 

حُبُّ الدُّنْيَا وَ كَرَاهِيَّةُ الْمَوْتِ
Hubbuddunya wa karaahiyatul maut

Love for Dunya and dislike for death. 

This is what is going to destroy you and eat you up from within so that you will remain mere shells, weightless shells. The Kuffaar will come and bulldoze you and you will be finished.
We have love for Dunya, that is why we hate Maut. The Kuffaar know all about this, that is why they are taking advantage. When the quality of Wahn is going to go from our hearts, is when they will not be able to do anything. 

One Muslim was interviewing an Israili minister regarding the Palestinian-Israili conflict and the way they are kiling Muslims. The Israili minister said;
It is the Muslims’ fault. When the Muslims rectify themselves, we will not be able to do anything. He gave the proof of this from their scriptures; the day when the Masaajid will become as full at Fajr Salaah like they do for Jumua Salaah, is the day we will back off ourselves. That is the day we will not be able to fight you despite you not having even a weapon.  

*The opposite of Hubbe Dunya is Zuhd.*
Zuhd is for a person not to have the love of this world. Zuhd, abstinence from Dunya is a very important quality. It is for the heart to be purified of the love of Dunya.
Zuhd does not mean we leave our family, our belongings and go live in the jungle. Islam does not permit such things.

Nabi e Kareem Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said;

لَا رَهْبَانِيَّةَ فِى الْإِسْلَامِ
Laa rahbaniyyata fil islam

There is no monkhood in Islam.
You stay with people, you can have wealth but do not enter them into your heart. Only have them in your hand.

Maulana Rumi Rahimahullah gave a beautiful example of the water and ship.
The water is this Dunya. So long as Dunya is under us, then you will actually use this Dunya because you need Dunya to go ahead and progress.
The minute Dunya is going to come inside the ship, what will happen?
The ship will sink.
The minute Dunya comes inside us, then we will also sink. But if it is going to be under our feet, then we can use Dunya to progress towards Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala.

Once Hadhrat Musa Alaihissalaam requested Allah;
Ya Allah, show me a practical example of the deception of Dunya.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala brought in front of him a woman. She was fully covered in Burkha and Niqaab. One of her hands was exposed. Each finger in that hand had a beautiful shiny ring on it making her hand look very attractive. She was gesturing him with that hand to come towards her. 
Her hand was so attractive, that he was being pulled towards her. He noticed her other hand was behind her back.

He told Allah; Ya Allah, I do not understand. Please explain to me about this example.
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala said;
this woman is Dunya. She is covered, therefore, you cannot see the reality. All you can see is this one hand which is exposed. This hand is so beautiful due to its glitter and glamour such that everyone is being pulled towards it. People are going towards this woman, Dunya
