Light an I are hanging around a horse racing arena as the school didn't have a race track. I was shuffling nervously as I had not suspected L to have more interest in challenging me then Light. Jack and BB were off preparing two horses. Apparently, in this universe, I sometimes exercised the horses. I was very worried that L would see my reluctance to compete as some ridicules reason to arrest me.

I was broken out of my thoughts when I noticed L approaching. I smiled and waved at the panda-themed man as he stopped in front of us. I looked around for something to distract me and noticed Jack and BB were already on their way over with to beautiful horses. The one BB had was for L. Smoke was a black horse with a white star I knew the horse was very temperamental which I suspect BB did on purpose to annoy and possibly hurt L. I gave a warning glare at BB who just rolled his eyes and smirked. Jack, on the other hand, had brought Misty a gentle quarter-horse mix. As I was petting the horses I turned my hearing to L and Lights conversation.

"I have to admit I was surprised, Ryuga. I never thought you'd challenge my sister to a horse race as a way to get to know each other." Ligh said in a sickly cheerful tone that made me want to throw-up. L just shrugged as if not bothered in the slightest.

"Is it a problem for you?" L asked glancing from me to Light and back. Light opened his mouth to reply but I quickly cut him off much to Light's annoyance.

"Not at all, but when you first invited me to race did you realize how good I was?" I asked smirking slightly. Despite the fact, I was on L's side and the main suspect I could help but poke at L's suspicions.

"Yes. I'll be fine, though, it's been a while, but I have taken riding lessons once or twice." L said admitted frowning slightly. I chuckled at how L was for once not as knowledgable on something as someone else. I suddenly grew serious as I shared a cautious look with Jack and BB.

"Ryuga, you know that you that the racehorses will be running over 60 km an hour, this isn't a game Ryuga if you fell off you could die." I scolded firmly. A part of me relished in the surprise on L and Light's face but a bigger part just wanted no one to get hurt.

"I understand your concern, Miss Yagami. I will be fine." L responded carefully. I narrowed my eyes at L. I almost wanted to call off the race but decided that there was no harm in going for one lap.

I turned around and mounted Misty I watched as L awkwardly mounted Smoke. I gave L a playful grin before having Misty trot over to the gates.

Police Department

"What do you mean you're not at liberty to say." A man said in disbelief. Soichiro had come to his boss to check-in and was now leaning toward an argument.

"I'm very sorry, sir. We're under orders from L not to discuss the case with anyone including you." Soichiro responded in a firm but slightly guilty tone.

"I'm not asking for details here, just what you're doing and where." the Boss said almost pleading for details.

"I'm very sorry, sir." Soichiro stated. Soichiro looked uncomfortable at the questions.

"Hm. You know, Yagami, it's been 4 months since this case came to the public's attention, and they want results. People are saying that the NPA is incompetent, that L is incompetent." the Boss said trying to bluff a bit of information from Soichiro. Unfortunately, for him, Soichiro saw through the bluff.

"With all due respect, sir, the rest of the department runs away with their tails between their legs and we're incompetent? Do you have any idea how many people are left at the task force headquarters these days? If you're concerned with public opinion, then you'll want to suppress the fact that most of our detectives would rather let the serial killer roam free than risk their lives. Please excuse me." Soichiro stated firmly before turning to leave/

"Yagami, what about this L character? Can he be trusted?" the Boss asked carefully. Soichiro turned around slowly.

"In my opinion, he's a lot more capable than we are. Right now, even as we speak, he's risking his life." Soichiro responded darkly before continuing to leave.

Race Track

The blood in my ears pumped as we set our horse up in the starting gate L had the advantage of being in the gate right next to the inside rail while I took the gate by the outside rail. Misty snorted impatiently and pawed at the ground. I leaned forward in my saddle as the count down started. I could hear Jack counting down from five but for the most part, I was laser-focused on the track ahead.

Suddenly the siren rang and the gates opened. Misty charged forward in an intense burst of speed. I focused solely on the track as the first bend quickly approached. Taking a risk and glancing behind slightly I noticed L catching up on Smoke, although he looked a little tense. I laughed before nudging Misty to go faster I was approaching Misty's top speed as we rounded the second bend. this was when things went wrong. In the show, L wouldn't have gotten hurt at least not badly.

A sharp scream and heavy thump made both of my hearts nearly stop in horror. I quickly slowed and turned Misty around. I trotted over to the source of the scream. I gasped in horror. Smoke was alright thank-goodness, but that wasn't my concern at the moment. I dismounted Misty and ran up to a critically injured L. Looking over L I soon realized the severity of the situation. When Smoke tripped and fell he had landed on L which would have been bad as it was, but Smoke had also fallen into the railing push L who had slid off at this point into the railing with extreme force. I knelt beside L as he looked around in clear confusion.

"Hey, L? Can you tell me how many fingers I am holding up?" I asked firmly. L looked at me for a moment before lifting two shaky fingers.

"L I was holding one finger up." I told L gently. I looked up to see Jack, BB, and Light running over. I nodded at Jack and Light who got the message and Jack went over to L to check on him while Light phoned Watari. Now that L was getting immediate attention I whipped around to face BB. I let my eyes glow with barely contained anger as I took a step forward toward BB.

"How dare you give L a horse that I told you was severely temperamental! I thought you were above this! I know you hate L but this could have killed him! In fact, depending on whether he has internal injuries or not it still might have!" I shouted angerly at BB. BB cringed at the tone I was using.

"I-I didn't r-realize it was s-such a problem." Beyond stuttered a glint of fear in his eyes. I glared at him before sighing.

"Beyond. Leave. I will talk about this later." I ordered firmly. BB nodded quickly before running back to his car.

TIME SKIP

Hospital

I was sitting by L's bed as the heart monitor beeped steadily. I could believe this happened, now L is in a coma and there is no knowing when he would wake up. I got up to leave the room when Light ran in panting.

"Dad is here, he has had a heart-attack" Light said quickly as he grabbed my hand and pulled me down the hall to the room Dad was in.

Outside Hospital

I was sitting on a bench thinking about what I was supposed to do now that L was out of the picture for who knows how long. I closed my eyes as I went over the potential people I could bring in to solve the case. I didn't want to risk Near, Matt, and Mello's lives if I didn't have to.

"Hey Tsuki, you alright?" Jack asked softly. I turned around and noticed Jack had sat beside me at some point.

"Jack." I whispered softly. Jack looked at me curiously.

"Yeah? What's on your mind?" Jack asked with a tilt of his head. I sighed and looked up at the crescent moon hanging in the sky.

"How quickly do you think The Doctor can arrive?" I asked still staring up at the moon. A sharp intake of breath pulled my mind backed to earth. I turned to Jack with a serious expression.

"You're serious?" Jack asked his face paling slightly. I nodded a dark look on my face.

"Jack, L was our only hope of fighting Kira. I think we need help from the real greatest detective. Jack bring in The Oncoming Storm." I said with cold certainty. Jack closed his eyes for a minute before nodding and walking away.
