We all piled into the dinning room. Mr. and Mrs. O'Brien took both ends of the table and my parents sat next to each other on one side of the table, which meant that I would have to sit next to Dylan on the other side. I take my place next to Dylan and look over at him and shocker he's still looking at me. I quickly look away and I see the smirk on his face grow bigger out of the corner of my eye. Surprisingly I find myself smiling a little bit too. I kind of like the way he is looking at me. No Kacey stop, you don't even know him, I say to myself and the smile disappears from my face.
"How are you guys liking California so far?" Lisa asks.
"We love it here." My mom answers with a smile.
We continue eating our dinner while having small talk here and there, mostly between the parents. Dylan and I were silent the whole time.
Then out of nowhere Dylan asks the question I was hoping no one would ask, "So why did you guys move here?" He looks at me then to my parents.
Of course I don't want them to know the real reason why we moved here so I looked to my parents for help, hoping they would come up with something.
Then my dad spoke up, "Uh, it was for my job. See I'm a doctor and I saw a really great opportunity here and I just had to take it."
"Wow, Kacey that must have been hard leaving your friends back home." Dylan says to me.
"Yeah." I lie, but he doesn't need to know that. "But I'm happy for my dad."
After we all finished dinner Lisa instructed Dylan to take me downstairs so we can get to know each other while our parents talk. Ok now I'm nervous again. Why do we have to go down to the basement? Why can't we just go into the living room or something? My mind is racing with a million thoughts right now.
Dylan leads me out of the kitchen and towards a door that leads to their basement. He opens it and is half way down the stairs when he notices I'm still at the top of the steps.
"Uh, Kacey are you coming? It's ok I don't bite." He says with a smile.
"Yeah sorry." I say and take a deep breath.
When I reach the bottom of the stairs I am surprised to see that the basement is his room. But it's more than just a bedroom. He has a pretty big flat screen TV on the wall, a comfortable looking couch, every gaming system you can name, a drum set in the corner, a pool table, and of course his bed.
"Woah cool room." I tell him and smile.
"Thanks. Yeah I basically spend all my time down here except when I'm hungry I have to go upstairs for that."
"Do you even have a bathroom down here?" I ask.
He walks past me to a door behind me and opens it. "Bam, a bathroom with a shower in it."
I like his smile, I think to myself and I can't help but smile too.
"Why don't we got sit on the couch and talk."
"Yeah ok." I say still smiling.
Dylan leads me over to the couch and I sit down and he sits right next to me.
"Shall we get to know each other?"he says with a goofy smile on his face.
"We shall." I say and we both laugh.
