The whole day goes by so fast, and before I knew it, it was almost time to have dinner at Dylan's house. I don't know what I should wear. Should I wear something fancy, formal, or casual? Ugh I have no idea. When in doubt ask mom, I say to myself.
"Mom!" I yell down to her. "How should I dress for tonight? I have no idea."
"Nothing too fancy. How about that nice burgundy dress you bought a few months ago?" She yells up to me.
"Ok!"
I completely forgot about that dress. It's perfect and also one of my favorite colors. I run back to my room and rummage through my closet to find it.
"Ah, there you are." I say out loud.
I take my comfy clothes off and slip the dress on. It fits me perfectly. I don't usually like the way I look, but I actually feel pretty confident about myself right now. I don't know why though, I'm not trying to impress anyone. Then Dylan pops into my head. No, no, no definitely not him. Yes, he is pretty cute from the looks of it, but for all I know his personality could be crap. And I don't think I'm anywhere near ready to really get to know a guy, if you know what I mean, after what happened.
There I go again. Stop thinking about it Kacey, I tell myself. I look around my room for my gold sandals. I spot them by my desk and put them on. Ok, now I'm all ready. I have a nervous feeling in my stomach and I don't even know why. It's just a dinner. One last check in my mirror and I'm heading downstairs.
My mom and dad are waiting for me in the kitchen. When I walk in they both look at me and smile.
"Kacey, you look beautiful." My dad tells me, and my mom nods her head in agreement.
"Thanks." I say quietly.
"Well, are we ready to head over to the O'Brien's?" My mom asks.
My dad out his arm around me and says, "Yep!"
Before my mom rings their doorbell I take a deep breathe and let it out. My mom pushes it. Almost right away someone opens it. A woman. Dylan's mom, I say to myself. She has a huge smile on her face.
"Hi guys! I'm so happy you came! Come in." She tells us.
"Thank you for inviting us, Lisa." My mom says with a smile.
"Of course! And you must be Kacey. I'm Lisa. It's very nice to meet you." She says to me.
"It's nice to meet you too, Lisa. Your house looks lovely." I say back to her.
"Aww, thank you sweetie!" She tells me. "Patrick, Dylan, the King's are here!"
And almost immediately I hear footsteps coming from two directions. One from just a couple of rooms away and one from downstairs. They both appear at the same time. Father and son. My eyes go straight to the son and we both lock eyes, and he smiles.
"Patrick, Dylan, you both met Cheryl and David King, but this is their daughter Kacey." Lisa tells them.
Patrick holds out his hand for me to shake it and I do.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Kacey." Patrick says to me with a smile.
"It's a pleasure to meet you too." I say back to him.
Now it's Dylan's turn. He moves in front if me. Our eyes meet.
"It's nice to meet you Kacey. I'm Dylan." He says and smiles.
His light brown eyes are still starring into my hazel ones
"It's nice to meet you too." I say and smile back.
I break our eye contact and walk back over to where my parents are standing. As I turn around I notice Dylan is still looking at me with a smirk on his face. There's that nervous feeling again.
I didn't even notice that Lisa had disappeared until I hear her call from another room saying, "Dinner's ready!"
