Chapter 8

I wake up to the sound of my alarm. I can't believe that it's already Monday, and I really can't believe that I'm actually going to a new public school. I roll over in bed and shut my alarm off. That's something I haven't missed, waking up early. It's 5:30. I have to be over at Dylan's by 7. It takes me about an hour to get ready normally, so that'll leave me enough time to eat breakfast.

My stomach is starting to have that nervous feeling. I get out of bed and walk down the hall to the bathroom to wash my face. I wash my face and put my contacts in. Before I leave the bathroom I look at my reflection in the mirror. You can do this Kacey, it's just school, I tell myself and walk out the door to my bedroom.

I stand infront of my closet until an outfit idea comes to mind. I rummage through my shirts until I find the one I've been looking for. It's a simple but cute black short sleeve shirt and I grab my pair of burgundy skinny jeans to go with it. I slip my clothes on and look in the mirror. Surprisingly I really like the way my hair looks for once, so I decide to keep my loose curls. Next it's time for makeup. I don't wear much make up, none really, just eye liner and mascara. And now for the final touch I put on my black ankle boots. I glance at my clock and it reads 6:18. Wow, I'm actually ready early. I take one last check in the mirror, and head downstairs for breakfast.

I walk into the kitchen and my parents are already there. My mom making pancakes and my dad reading the morning paper.

"Good morning Kace." Mom says.

"Morning." I tell her while pouring my coffee.

"Are you excited for your first day of senior year?" Dad asks me.

"Excited and nervous."

"Being nervous is completely normal. Everyone's nervous on their first day at a new school. And besides you'll have Dylan there with you. It seems like you two are getting along very well." Mom says, looking up at me at her last words.

I can't help but smile, and I think I'm blushing too. "Uhh yeah, he's really nice."

I sit down at the kitchen table and my mom sets down a plate with pancakes stacked high. I take two from the stack and pour syrup all over them and start eating. Right when I finish Milo comes walking into the kitchen from the living room and sits next to me and looks up at me with his puppy eyes. I give in and toss him a pancake from the stack.

I look over at the clock and it's 6:50. "I guess I should head over to Dylan's now."

"Ok, honey have a great first day." Dad says.

I grab my backpack and I'm out the door. Before I knew it I was standing on Dylan's front porch facing the front door. I ring the doorbell and I hear pounding footsteps coming towards the door, and it swings open with Dylan standing there in the doorway. He has that goofy smile on his face as he looks at me.

"Wow Kacey you look great." He says looking me over.

"Thanks," I smile, "It's not too much?"

"No no no you look amazing. You ready?"

"Yep!" I look up at him.

"Great let's go!" Dylan says and he puts his hand on my back to guide me to his Jeep. I tense up when he touches my back but he didn't seem to notice so I just smile. He opens the passenger side door for me and I get in. His Jeep smells like him, and he smells really good by the way. Dylan gets in and starts the Jeep. He then looks over at me and smiles and I smile back.

We arrive at Emerson High fifteen minutes later. Dylan parks the car and looks at me.

"You look terrified." He says.

"More nervous than anything, but also slightly terrified. This place is huge, and there's so many kids, and I only know you out of the what three thousand people that go here."

"Just relax Kacey. Everyone's going to love you." He says looking into my eyes and I smile.

We sit there in his Jeep talking until we both hear someone scream, "Dylan!"

Dylan gets out of the car and yells, "Tyler!" And they both do that high five hug thing that all guys seem to do. I watch them talk from the comfort of Dylan's Jeep, but then Dylan looks over and sees me still in the car and says, "Kacey!", and waves me over. Great, I think. I get out of the car and walk over to Dylan and that Tyler kid.

"Kacey, this is my best friend Tyler Posey. Tyler, this is my new neighbor Kacey King." Dylan says.

"New neighbor huh?" Tyler says and makes a face at Dylan and Dylan smiles and looks to the ground. "Well it's nice to meet you Kacey. Welcome to Emerson High home of the Rays and terrible tasting cafeteria food." He holds his one hand out for me to shake, while the other hand is holding a motorcycle helmet.

"Nice to meet you too." I laugh and shake his hand.

"Would you like Tyler and I to escort you to the main office?" Dylan says and holds his arm out and Tyler does the same.

"I'd be honored." I say and wrap my arms around theirs.

Dylan looks over at me while we're walking and says, "See now you know two people out of the three thousand that go here. That's progress!"

I can't help but smile. Maybe this day won't be as bad as I thought.
