Chapter 9

Dylan and Tyler walk me to the front of the school and I stop in my tracks.

"Wow this place is even bigger up close." I say starring at the giant doors in front of me.

"Yeah that usually happens when you get closer to things." Tyler says to me laughing.

"Shut up." I say and elbow him in the side and smile.

"Now, now children no fighting on the first day of school." Dylan chimes in.

"Sorry dad." Tyler and I say insync.

"Alright are we ready to go inside?" Dylan looks at me.

I take a deep breath and look at all the kids around us walking into the school, "Yeah let's go."

Dylan and Tyler open the doors for me and I walk in. There are kids everywhere. There's a bunch of reunions going on. Girls are hugging here. Creepy guys are leaning against walls watching the girls as if they're picking out their next target. I keep looking around to get familiar with my new surroundings when I notice one of those creepy guys looking at me and smiling. I quickly look away and take a step closer to Dylan.

"Ok well the office is this way." Dylan says and puts his hand on my back to guide me and Tyler follows us.

"You see that lady with the brown hair behind the desk?" Dylan says pointing. "That's Mrs. West. Just go up to her and tell you're new here and need your schedule and locker info."

"Alright. Be right back." I tell them.

I walk over to where Dylan directed me and Mrs. West smiles at me.

"Hi, my name is Kacey King. I'm new here, and my friend told me that I can get my schedule and locker information here?"

"Yep! It'll be just one minute. Kacey King? Correct?"

"Yeah."

While Mrs. West is getting my information I hear some girl yell, "Dylan!" What's with everyone yelling Dylan's name around here? I turn around and I see some blond girl prance over to Dylan and hug him, but Dylan didn't look very interested. Tyler notices me watching and walks over to me.

"Here's your schedule and locker information Kacey. Have a good day!" Mrs. West tells me. I thank her and turn to Tyler.

"That's Maya Stafford. Dylan's ex-girlfriend, but it looks like she didn't get that message through her head." Tyler says to me.

I look over at Dylan and Maya. He's just standing there looking at the ceiling while she is talking non stop. And I smile at how uninterested he looks.

"When did they break up?" I look back to Tyler.

"Just a couple weeks ago. Like near the end of August. They only dated for a couple months. They never really got a long. Always fighting."

That's when our parents introduced us. When we first started talking and becoming friends. Could I have been the reason Dylan broke up with Maya? Could Dylan possibly like me more than a friend? And could I possibly like him more than a friend too? I just smile to myself, because I know the answer, and the answer is yes.
