"Serenity is the balance between good and bad, life and death, horrors and pleasures. Life is, as it were, defined by death. If there wasn't death of things, then there wouldn't be any life to celebrate."
~Norman DaviesThe sound of metal hitting metal could be heard throughout the night as the Royal and I began our little dance. Sparks lit up the night sky as our weapons collided yet again, fueling the burning flame of determination within me even more. Again and again, the weapons collided with each other, every time with a little more force from both sides.
Where I couldn't keep up with the Vampire before, we were completely even now that the Blood was actually aiding me. I don't know why it was doing this, but I really appreciated this. I wouldn't know how to fight otherwise and therefore meet my inevitable demise.
Maybe it knew this. Maybe it simply wanted to keep me from dying.Whatever the reason was, I wouldn't let this opportunity slip by.
Left, right, forward, hit, duck, hit, jump, block. The attacks happened within seconds as we danced around each other to the tune of war. Even with the Blood's help, I still had a hard time against the Vampire, blocking and dodging left and right, not leaving me time to think; I could just react.
However, Kerschner wasn't having a good time either, needing to defend himself more often then he wished. I could see the anger on his face as we continued to move around, neither one gaining the upper hand.
I hissed as the blade sliced open my arm, the blood dripping down my skin and painting my coat in a shining red. However, the pain was immediately numbed out by both the adrenaline and the ancient power flowing through my veins. I didn't think about it too much as I simply continued with the battle, my thoughts trained on only one goal.
Survive and take Kerschner down. Nothing more, nothing less.
Not wasting any time, I spun around, ducking under the Vampires arm, leaving a big gash with my spear before spinning further, cutting his back as I now stood behind him. Instantly, the Royal turned around, the annoyed look now being one of pure wrath, as he didn't give me time to react, piercing his blade through my shoulder.
A surprised gasp left my lips as I felt the cold metal inside my flesh, digging into my skin. It didn't hurt as much as it should since my body had other worries right now. "You filthy beast. We should have just made sure we killed every single one of you that night." He spat out these words as if I was vermin to be looked down upon, the expression on his face was one of disgust.
"Too bad you missed a few." In one swift movement I took a hold of the blade sticking in my shoulder, holding it tightly while lifting my leg to kick Kerschner in the stomach, giving me enough time to pull the sword out of me and pushing it in his direction, resulting in the Vampire stumbling back, if only a step.
Using the chance that was given to me, I swung my spear at him, barely missing him as he lifted his sword to block just in time. "You really start to piss me off." His eyes seemed to pierce me, the red an almost glowing color as his face was distorted in anger and frustration. It was clear he wasn't expecting me to put up such a fight, actually giving him a hard time. It was the mistake every Vampire made while fighting: Underestimating the enemy.
"Good thing that is based on mutuality."
I pushed myself backwards, spinning around in order to hit him again. The Royal was quick to dodge sideways and around me, slicing my back in a quick movement. I used the opportunity to swing my spear backwards, a move he was dumb enough to block with his arm. "You really thought I would fall for something so simple and stupid? It's one of the oldest tricks in the book."
