"Consciously or not, we are all on a quest for answers, trying to learn the lessons of life. We grapple with fear and guilt. We search for meaning, love, and power. We try to understand fear, loss, and time. We seek to discover who we are and how we can become truly happy."
~Elisabeth Kubler-Ross"You know, I have a really bad feeling about this."
Shortly after we came to an agreement with Bishop, the man had beckoned us to follow him, leaving the restaurant in order to guide us through the streets of the small port city. Judging from the sun, we had talked and discussed things until noon, a look on my silver pocket watch confirming my assumptions. By now, there was no doubt the others had noticed our absence, leaving me to wonder about their further actions.
A sigh escaped my lips, my breath forming a little white cloud in front of my face. Winter had come fast this year, barely leaving any fall to enjoy. The fact that we travelled north wasn't helping very much, the temperatures in South Sakhalin only dropping even further. Surely it wouldn't take long for snow to fall, especially in this region. The mountaintops in the distance were already covered with the pure white flakes, making them look even more impressive. The familiar image moved something deep within me, a few memories welling up inside of me.
The snow never melted in Dogville.
I quickly shock my head, trying to chase away the distracting thoughts inside my mind. I couldn't let my mind stray in times like these. Therefore I tore my gaze away from the scenery, looking straight ahead once more.
Bishop was walking a little distance ahead, navigating through the streets of the unknown town, going who-knows-where. Yuliy and I had fallen a little behind in an attempt to discuss our actions without the supposedly Jaeger noticing something about us. Even thought he offered to help us find the Ark, I wasn't trusting him one bit. Basically everything about him was sketchy and his knowledge was far too vast to be a mere coincidence. Something inside me told me there was more to him than my eyes could see and I didn't like it.
The ravenette beside me seemed to have anticipated my doubtful thoughts, simply sighing at my statement. Although he was apparently much calmer than I was, I could see he wasn't trusting the man either. The way he always kept his eyes on the Jaeger, not letting his guard down for even a second made his suspicions subtle, yet obvious.
"I know, but what other choice do we have? If this source he is talking about truly exists, it's going to be our only way to find the Ark. As long as we don't have the documents, this is our only chance." The Sirius seemed confident about his words, not questioning if there was another path. I'm certainly not dumb, I know for myself that he was right, but that wouldn't ease my nerves. Nothing about all of this was in any way trustworthy and I wasn't itching for an confrontation this soon.
"What if this is a trap? With that scent he has I honestly doubt he really is a Jaeger." My voice was low and my senses were all focused on Bishop, trying to see some kind of reaction from him. He probably already knew we weren't trusting him completely, but there still was no need for him to hear this conversation.
"Then it is. For now we should both calm down and see where this is going. Worrying over things like this as of now will lead us nowhere."
With a sigh, I simply nodded my head, knowing that a discussion wouldn't be of any use now. As always, there was far too little information to work with. We had no other choice but to wait and see what is going to happen and then, only then, would we able to determine a suitable course of action.
Silence enveloped us as we followed the blonde man, my mind still filled with doubt. Who was this informant anyway? Only a Sirius should be able to know so much about the Ark, yet according to the Blood there was no way another one was still alive. Whether this ancient power was trustworthy was questionable too, but right now I was definitely trusting it more than this man.
