Second Chance With You
Chapter One

It was a cold stormy night when it happened.

Unlike any other day it was extremely cold, windy and unexpected. Weather reports had promised a bright moon but with the clouded sky no one could even see it. The heavy rain didn't make it any better.

There wasn't even a vehicle in sight whereas you would expect a number of people blowing off the stress of the week at hot night spots considering it was a Friday.

All that could be heard was the force of the rain hitting different surfaces as if it was a hail storm.
As if the sky was angry with the world for some reason. Like a woman grieving over the betrayal of her love with hatred brewing in her heart begging her for revenge.
The wind was so strong the were struggling to stand still. If you got hit by a rock you wouldn't be able to tell the difference if it was ice droped from the sky or or stones lifted as an offering to the heavens.

But then even though the world had decided to hide away from the storm there was one who fought through it.
Even though everything worked against her she pushed through with determination until she got to her destination.
She was soaked to the bone but made sure the bundle in her arms was dry and warm.

Well that was until she stood by the door of her destination and gazed into the bundle in her arms.
The more she pealed off the cacoon of comfort and warmth surrounding him, the more her determination faltered.
She fought back her tears as she admired the little bundle of joy in her arms.

She wanted to change her mind.
She wanted to turn around and find another way...but this was the only way.

"I love you my little one. I wish I could keep you but I can't. I want to hold you close but I need to let you go. I love you so much and I'm sorry" she said before kissing him of the for head.

As if he had been struck by lightning Rex opened his eyes as he quickly sat up but because he was by the edge of his bed he crashed to the ground. He groaned in pain as he clutched his injured side.

It was the same dream that had haunted him most of his life.

He didn't know what it meant but his therapist has said since he was left at the doorstep of an opharnage as a baby his subconscious was trying to come up with reasons why his mother left him there.

But...it had to be more than that.

Rex couldn't put the pieces together but every time he woke up he felt like they was something he was forgetting.

A piece of the puzzle that will make it complete and make sense.

Feeling a bit better he decided to stand up as he took a look at his phone by his nightstand, checking the time.
It was 11 minutes past midnight.

He knew he wasn't going to fall asleep anytime soon and so he decided to study a bit.

Rex had already worked on all his assignments and was always up to date on his studies.
Considering that he was an orphan and had no one to support his university studies he had to work twice as hard as everyone else.
When he was younger the orphanage covered his school fees but as soon as he turned 18 he was on his own.

Luckily he had always been a hard worker and more intelligent than most.
He started working part-time from the age of 16 to raise money to live on his own and scooped a great scholarship from a top university because of academics and sports achievements.

He wasn't a nerd or the average jock who thought athletics was more important than academics.

He was tall, strong and handsome.

With his huge muscular frame, jet black hair and deep blue eyes, he was actually the main focus of many girls wet dreams but was never really much of a ladies man.

He had a great character and talked to everyone but he had never actually dated anyone since he was more focused on sorting out his own life.

Generally Rex looked like he could beat you up to a pulp but he was just a huge fluff ball.

Rex woke up feeling very tired and uncomfortable because somehow he slept on his study desk.

He pushed his body into action when he realised he running late to varsity.

He cursed his dreams and unfavourable sleeping patterns as he got ready and ran out of his apartment in a rush to catch the bus but to his dissapointment he didnt make it on time.

He stood by the bus stop panting like he had been running a marathon.

Now whether he liked it or not he was going to be late.

He really needed a car but would only be able to afford it in a few months time.

Part time jobs didn't pay that much and so it would take a while for him to get enough money.

"Need a ride?" He looked up and couldn't help the smile that covered his face.

"Thanks man. You're a lifesaver" he said as he jumped into the car.

"I tried calling you earlier on and when you didn't answer I knew you were having another late day" Mike said as he drove to their destination.

Rex was always thankful he had met Mike a few years back who was currently his best friend.

Unlike Rex, Mike grew up in a rich family with both parents and siblings.

His family was the closest thing Rex had to a real family.

They treated him like one of them and always invited him for dinner and other functions.

"You say it like it always happens" Rex scoffed in response.

"Well...this isn't the first time" Mike smirked at his friend.

"Fine. I just need to get a car"

"Let me..."

"No...I'm going to do this on my own" Rex cut him off immediately.

Even if Mike was rich and offered help more than once Rex wanted to do everything on his own and not take the easy way out.

"Fine. But just call me next time you need a ride" Mike said in defeat.

"I don't want to be a burden. I can take the bus" Rex responded.

"You're not a burden. You're my best friend and that's what best friends do"

Rex couldn't help but smile.
