Second Chance With You
Chapter 6Iris's POV
Have you ever been surrounded by friends and family but still felt lonely.
Surrounded by people willing to catch you but you keep falling.
You look like you're all put together on the outside while you are breaking apart bit by bit inside. That's how I feel every single day of my life ever since I lost my other half and one and only soul mate.
They say that when a werewolf loses its mate they either go crazy or die.
I don't understand how this can be considered living when I'm dead inside. How I can be considered sane when my thoughts are not stable?
How can I ever enjoy this immortal life without you?The only thing keeping me from blowing my brains out with a silver bullet is the promise you made to me along with the gift you left behind.
'I promise I will come back to you. Wait for me.'
The last words you spoke still repeat in my head like a mantra. No matter what I do I could never forget them.
Its been 150 years how much longer do I have to wait for you. Come back to me my love.
I can't bear this heartache any longer.I need to be strong for them but I don't know how much longer I can keep this facade of life when there is death within me. Because only you can give me life.
Please come back to me.

Authors POV
Iris wiped a tear before closing his eyes and taking a deep breath.
Every once in a while everything got too much for him and he needed some time to breath. He needed a release. He needed to forget. Even for one day.His phone rang for the 50th time and he decided to turn it off. He knew it was his pack mates, specifically Keith and Luke. They were just worried about him and he knew that the habit he had developed over the years was bad but he needed the distraction.
He just needed to get away.
They all had their mates.
The whole pack was alive because of the sacrifice made by their old alpha who was his mate. They could never understand the loss he went through therefore they had no right to judge his actions.
The second he lost his mate he could literally feel his heart rip apart. No matter how much he screamed, cried or clawed his own chest the pain wouldn't go away. Even now all he could say is that the ache never went away but as the years go by it became bearable.
Enough for him to pretend it wasn't there to the others but not enough for him to bear alone.
He just needed to get drunk and sleep with some random stranger. It was a temporary release but he appreciated those few blissful hours. It was never as good as what he had with his mate but when he was drunk it didn't really matter.
Because he was on enemy territory he made sure to mask his scent and stay hidden under a hoodie. Their pack didn't get along with the Shining Moon Pack and the alphas son Mike always loved starting a fight.
They usually stayed out of each others territories but that night Iris was feeling daring even if he was just an omega. A fact he never allowed to define him even if most werewolves viewed them as weaker and smaller than most.
An ordinary omega would have died from losing their mate but he wasn't even close to ordinary.
Many dominant wolves had tried to mate with him even after losing his mate but he would only submit to one man who he would wait for no matter what. Because no one could outshine his alpha.
Iris had a few drinks and was in the process of scanning the crowd for a potential one night stand when he was hit with the most intoxicating scent.
He felt like he was hit with a sense of deja vu. It had been so long but the smell of lavender seemed better than the scent of mint he missed from his deceased mate.
He tried to ignore the scent and had a few more shots as he flirted with some girls. His wolf got restless and trying to take control. At that moment he knew if he didn't find the source of the scent he would go crazy.
It was difficult with the mixture of different scents, alcohol, drugs, sweat and sex in the house but soon he found himself upstairs in an empty room. The scent was faint and Iris was a little disapointed the trail ended there.
He took a few rounds around the house but didn't get much out of it. He was about to go out the back door when he spotted Mike and his bulldogs coming in.
He stepped into the shadows and that's when he caught the scent again.
It was coming from the very people he was trying to avoid. This meant they had been with the person but why was he/she not with them at that moment. As soon as the coast was clear he stepped outside and followed the trail they had left behind. The scent got stronger the further he got into the woods but Iris felt a sense of panic as the smell of blood got stronger.
His wolf almost succeeded in getting full control but he was able to push him down.At this point he was running and soon found a body covered in blood.
"Oh no" he whispered before checking for a pulse. His heatbeat was barely audible meaning he didn't have much time left.
Iris didn't know who he was but his scent told him he was someone special and he knew if he allowed the stranger to die he would regret it his whole life.
Especially when his wolf called 'MATE.'
