Chapter 12

Seth's POV

I sprinted through the forest ducking under branches and jumping over thick roots and stones.
I saw a flash of red on my right and I knew he had caught up with me.
I pushed myself to my limits but all he did was give me a wolfy grin when he was beside me and flashed into the distance ahead of me.
By the time I caught up to him he had shifted back to his human form as he sat by the riverside in a pair of shorts.
"Took you long enough" Rex said with a smile as soon I shifted back to my human form.
He threw me a pair of shorts which I gladly accepted.

"Show off" I mumbled before sitting next to him.
"Don't be a sore loser. Look on the bright side. You have gotten faster than before and soon you will be the best" Rex said before ruffling my hair. He was the only one I allowed to do that.
"Even better than you"  I responded with a smile.
"You can never be better than me little brother"he laughed.
"Cocky bastard" I scoffed which only made him laugh harder.

Flashback end

Those were the times I treasured the most.
Rex was not my biological brother but he loved me like one.
He found me after my pack had been killed.
He was also young and alone but took me in, took care of me and protected me.
I owe him my life. Literally.

When he died I also lost a part of myself that day. We all did.
He was more than just an Alpha, a brother and a friend. He was our pillar of strength.
And now out of nowhere this imposter thinks he can come and take his place.
He might be  Iris's mate but I still don't trust him.
He can never take my brothers place even if they share the same name and face.
I got my eye on you Royal Rex.

"You do remember that I can read your mind even if you block me out" Luke said as he settled next to me.
I pulled him on my lap before burying my face in his neck and inhaling his sweet scent.
It always calms me down.
"You reading my mind is like breathing air for you. I accepted it a long time ago and don't really care" I said.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Luke asked as he admired the view of the river before us.

I liked to go for a run before settling on the edge of the river.
Sitting on a rock and admiring the beautiful scenery.
I used to do it a lot with our old alpha and it was my way of remembering him.
"What's there to talk about? I don't trust this guy and honestly i agree with the twins on this one. He could be a psychopath for all we know" I said.

"Should Orla and I keep putting you guys in check. This man has done nothing wrong and I like how happy  Iris has been. It had been too long since our Luna genuinely smiled and was happy" Luke said.
"The twins made him happy" I responded.
"Yes they did but even if Orla makes you happy how would you feel if you lost me?" Luke said and I suddenly turned him around to face me.
"Don't say that. I don't even want to imagine life without you" I said before kissing him.

"You see what I mean. Iris didn't imagine that but he actually lived it. For all these years Iris has had to be strong and bear the void left in his heart when he lost his mate. But now he has been given a second chance and we need to be happy for him. The twins are just being overprotective but they will get over it. Let's not be another barrier" Luke said and he made a lot of sense but a part of me was still resistant.
"Anyway. I think he is a nice guy" Luke said making me laugh.
"Think. Baby I know you have already ease dropped in his mind. No need to pretend you haven't seen his thoughts" I said.
Luke couldn't stay out of our minds even if he tried.

"Well...actually I haven't" Luke said looking away.
"Why?" I asked as I gently held his chin to make him face me.
"The truth is I tried to...but... I can't read his mind. Its like an impenetrable wall" Luke explained.
"Well things just got more interesting"
