Rex's POV

It was late in the afternoon when I finally got some alone time. We spent the whole day catching up as the pack gave me an update and all that happened while I was away.
It was good catching up and finding out all went well all these past years.
But I still can't help but feel guilty.

It wasn't my fault I died but I still wish I could have been here for Iris and the boys.
I left him pregnant and worst of all I knew he was shattered by my death leaving him empty.
He might not admit it out loud but I know it was hard for him and the whole pack.

I don't know how he held it altogether for so long.
The moment I realized we had been separated I was shattered.
I couldn't even breath properly knowing I couldn't be with him and hold him the way I used to.
I couldn't carry on another second and if my mother had not erased my memories I don't know how I would have lived on.

Iris is amazing and strong. Even stronger than I am if he could hold on for so long.
Leaving him right now was one of the hardest things I had to do but I needed to come out on my own and clear my mind.
"And here I was thinking you just came out to meet your dear sweet mother"

Authors POV

Rex turned to see Selene standing right behind him.
He couldn't help but laugh at the pout on her lips and the way she crossed her arms.
"And why would such a beautiful goddess be doing in the mortal realm" he asked with a smile.
"Looking for her oblivious human son who she protects with all her might" she said now also smiling.

"Well I'm sorry to disappoint you but your oblivious human son is no more. Now all you have is the older annoying one" Rex responded.
"Mmm... I'm going to miss him. I guess I will just have to accept what I can get" she responded before they both burst into laughter.

"I missed you mother" Rex said as he held the petite goddess in his arms.
"I visited you once every month" she responded with a kiss on the cheek.
"Yes but then I didn't know who you were and it seemed more like a dream. My human mind couldn't comprehend who you were" Rex said as he let go of her.

"I had to erase myself from your memory to protect your identity" she explained.
"Too bad now I remember everything" he said.
"I'm going to miss that side of you. It was nice having a total clueless baby again. Now you're all grown up and wise and I can't be all motherly because you will tell me you're too old" she said.
"Don't worry mother. I will always be your big boy" he said.
"but I want a small boy" she said with a pout making Rex laugh again.

Soon they had settled by the river Bank.
"So my pack mates aren't normal right? You brought us together on purpose?" he asked.
"You're smarter than you look but you know I can't tell you more. You will discover the truth at the right time."
" I know. It's alright. But can you tell me why I'm here? " he asked.
" I'm not sure myself but I can feel something big coming. Everyone upstairs is anxious because no one knows what's happening but they can feel something is coming" she explained.

"okay. I will do what I can. It's my duty anyway... My curse" Rex said as he gazed at his reflection in the water. He can never be his own person but always an instrument of the gods.
"I know you're tired my child. I wish they was more I could do for you" Selena whispered as she wrapped an arm around his shoulders and held him close.

"te amo filium meum (I love you my son)" she said before kissing him on his head, her voice disappearing into the wind.
When he opened his eyes she was gone.
"Trust Selene to give a dramatic exit" he said with a smile before he stood up.

Then that's when he heard the footsteps stomping towards him. He didn't have to turn because he already knew who was approaching him.
He could feel their anger radiating towards him and he had expected it. He was actually shocked they hadn't looked for him sooner.

"We are gone for only 24hours and you don't hesitate to shack up with our dad and Mark him. You just made the biggest mistake of your life" Roan lashed out as they approached Rex.
"Good evening to you to" Rex said as he turned to face the very angry twins.

Kin swung at him but Rex easily dodged it while sending the younger tumbling to the ground.
Roan also tried to beat the taller man but also ended up with his back on the ground.
"He is my mate. Of course I was going to mark him" Rex said with a smirk angering the twins who tried to attack him again but ended up on the ground.
Just a few days ago they were kicking his ass but now all of a sudden he was untouchable.

"I don't care who you are. You can't just come and take what doesn't belong to you and be our alpha" Roan lashed out in anger.
"You can't take his place" Kin lashed out as well and it all make sense to Rex. But before he could say a word they had shifted into their wolves.
Rex did the same but he had grown bigger from his last shift making the twins look like pups.
But that didn't stop them from attacking but Rex easily overpowered the dynamic duo pinning them both to the ground.

'Now listen here pups and listen well. Iris might have spoiled and pampered you but I don't take disrespect very well. I didn't roam this world for centuries to breed a pair of brats who get mad when things don't go their way. So from now on you will address me with respect because not only am I your alpha but I am also your father. And believe when I say next time I won't be so linient " Rex roared before letting go of his whimpering sons.
