"Zyrene, do you have any answer? May sinasabi ka ba kanina?" Tanong sakin ng teacher namin sa Earth and Life Science subject namin.
"Go na, Zen." Alam niya kasi na parang may invisible na competition between me and my other classmate na si Daryll. Well for me, hindi ko naman siya nakikita as kalaban. Gusto ko lang matuto and syempre, inilalabas ko lang kung anong alam ko in every subject.
"No ma'am.
I silenced her dahil baka marinig pa siya ng iba naming kaklase. Well, sa barkada alam naman nila or should I say, almost everyone from my friends have secret angst to Daryll.
And sometimes, we needed that. That thing called privacy.
"My gosh! What a nerd! Really, nagbabasa ka niyan? So cheap. Can't you buy some books? " napa-angat ang tingin ko sa nagsalita. Ahh, si Jeri. Most popular girl here in South Ville, at kasama niya yung iba pa niyang mga kaibigan. I exited my wattpad app and stand up to find Mycah.
"Oops, not too fast. I'm not yet done talking to you, Nerd." she said with a smirk plastered on her face.
Please, leave me alone." mahinang pakiusap ko. She just 'tssed'.
"Well, hindi na man gulo ang gusto ko. I just want to lend you some of my books." sabay abot niya sakin ng isang libro na makapal. My eyes glistened when I saw the book. It was the latest book of one of my favorite author. I was about to touch it but, she instantly pulls it back. They all laughed.
Well, alisin na natin yung 'parang' dahil I really felt ashamed.
Cheap people. How sad that you cannot afford to buy books and couldn't have a signature of the author themselves? What a shame. A trash like you, suits there well." After the long insults comes the loud laughter of these girls.
In my five months stay here in South Ville, masasabi kong pinipilit kong magcope-up sa mga estudyante lalo pa't tama si Jeri, I'm not like them. I can't afford to buy expensive things but, I can cope with their academic performances."Natahimik na siya, Jeri. Maybe, letting your words sink into her mind.
Am I right, Zen? " she asked with a tone of sarcasm in her voice. I just looked at her blankly.
Ayaw kong sumagot. Ayoko kong pumatol. Kaya kung pwede, lubayan niyo na ko.
I want to tell that to them, but I choose not to. Baka mas lalo pa sila ng ma-trigger.
"What? Aren't you gonna talk? Am I talking to a mute? My God! Akala ko ba matalino ka? Do you know that when someone's talking you should--"
"Listen. When someone's talking you should listen. And that's what I'm doing, I know the word respect. Baka isipin mong binabastos pa kita kung sasagot ako when you're in the middle of talking whatsoever."
I didn't mean to make it sound sarcastic but I guess, it goes out of my mouth naturally. Hindi ko na napigilan. And now, she got her jaw dropped.
"I'm sorry, Jeri. Hindi ko--"
"You're talking back now huh? Well I guess, tama nga sila. You ain't fun."
"Let's go girls. I don't have time with her shits." She flipped her hair and walks out of the place.
I roamed my eyes inside the cafeteria and saw other students watching us earlier. I felt ashamed because of their stares. Its as if I made a crime of talking back to Jeri. Well, she's known inside for being the Ms. Intramural and for her beauty and brains. But for me, she lack of manners.
I stayed silent until we get back to our classroom. Thinking of the last conversation I had with Jeri. Maybe she's right.
"Uyy, Zen. Ang tahimik mo talaga. Ano ba talagang mangyari sa cafeteria? Susugurin ko na ba si Jeri? Magsabi ka lang. " nag- aalalang tumingin sakin si Mycah. I just smiled at her and calm her down. Masyado siyang nag-oover react.
"She just helped me realized something."
