TRIS PRIOR'S POV

We travel quickly, Four kills a few dead ones that dare to cross his path with his long dagger.

Sweat soaks through my skin as I check our surrounding. The big buildings are broken down, and dust fills the road. The silence assures us that everyone is dead, and the few groans tell us that whoever died, must have turned into a vicious dead one.

I look at Four and he is looking at the distance, as if he is pondering. I realize that he is going to be a father. I will be a mother. My stomach churns in that thought. I rest my hand that's full of dry blood on my flat stomach that barely has any food in it.

I have trouble believing that there is a infant resting in it.

I felt a hand wrap around in my left hand as my right one is still on my stomach. Four's grip is reassuring. I look at him and his deep blue eyes stare into mine. We stop walking and he holds me close. His right hand places on top of mine that's on my stomach.

He looks at me and gives me a look that can make any girl instantly fall in love. He kisses me and I kiss back. I pull away.

" Four, I'm scared." I state. He nods, understanding what I said.

"I know, I am too." He simply replies. That's why I love him so much, he likes the say the truth to me. We pull away and start pacing again.

I think about my family, my brother Caleb, who died by a dead one right in front of me and I was too late, too stupid. My mom, who got killed by a dead one too but I wasn't there. But my dad, he went to war and went MIA. Who knows where he is in Iraq right now. If he is alive.

Now, I am stronger. I am braver. I have strength. I'll protect Four because that's what we do everyday. Try to survive in this shitty world by protecting each other.

I think about the first day of the apocalypse as the sun starts to go down.

•~~~~FLASHBACK TIME~~~~~~~•

"Tris, get dad's extra guns." Caleb barks, acting like the 30 year old he is.

I pace to the closet and grab them.

"Alright, we have to go." Four says, and opens the front door. " Wait, I'll go out first and see how many are around." I nod and so does Caleb. He paces out and I grip the gun tighter.

After a few minutes, Caleb cries out. I turn around just in time to see a dead one bite into his shoulder. More dead ones come from behind him and I realize they must have come through the back door of the large house. I load my gun but I'm too late.

The small group of dead ones tore him apart. And sobs rack my body. Four comes just in time and convinces me that we have to leave.

As we run out the door, I told myself over and over again that it's all my fault.

My fault.

•~~~~~~~~FLASHBACK ENDS~~~•

The sun goes completely down by the time my legs burn by the blistering pain.

"Let's rest here." Four declares, I nod in agreement. We're in a dark alleyway that smells like rotting corpses. I grab our old blankets from my pack and place it on the cold hard ground. I lay down and Four is right next to me. His warmth making my cold skin hot. He wraps his arms around me. I nestle my head in his chest.

"Tris, go to sleep. I'll keep watch," he states.

"Okay, but after a while call me to keep watch." I replied.

"Sure," he states. Then I fall into a deep, dreamless, sleep.
