Chan had returned home early from his honeymoon. Not even two weeks into being there, he caught his wife cheating on him, with another woman. When he saw this, he understood, so without saying a word, he packed his belongings and left a small note explaining why he left.
No hard feelings.
However, when he came home to the note on his kitchen counter, he went into hysterics. Chan regretted everything, from letting his parents force him into a relationship to not ending it sooner and instead confessing his feelings to the younger boy.
He just had to hope Jeongin hadn't followed through yet.
Throwing his bags onto the floor, he sprinted out the door. Chan knew exactly which bridge Jeongin would do it on. It was the bridge they had had their first proper conversation, and it was also the place where they had last talked. Chan regretted ignoring the young boy, but he had no choice. He didn't want his parents to hurt Jeongin.
Chan made it to the bridge in under five minutes, and had to take a quick stop to catch his breath, his hands on his knees as he bent over. Looking up, he saw a figure standing on the edge of the bridge, about ready to jump.
"Jeongin! No no please don't jump!" Chan had begun sobbing again.
However, Jeongin didn't hear his pleads.
He jumped.
"NO!!" Chan shrieked, diving in after Jeongin.
The water was ice cold, freezing Chan's skin as soon touched it.
He felt his limbs go numb as he frantically looked around for Jeongin's figure.
After a few minutes, Chan found him and grabbed hold of the thin sweater Jeongin had worn that day. Chan pulled Jeongin above the water, then with much struggle, swam over to the bank of the river, where he laid Jeongin down gently and shook him.
"Juh-Jeongin puh-puh-please wake up! Yuh-you cuh-ca-can't die on muh-me!" Chan shivered as more tears rolled down his red cheeks.
Chan eventually began to perform CPR. Bystanders saw the scenario and had called an ambulance, the sirens being heard from a few blocks away. Chan's shaking hands were doing nothing to help Jeongins' current state, so someone from the growing crowd jumped to help him. Pushing Chan away gently, the woman began to give Jeongin mouth to mouth, the badge that showed she was a trained nurse dangling from around her neck.
The ambulance eventually parked near the situation, and two nurses came running out with a stretcher in between them. They quickly loaded Jeongin's limp body onto it, carrying him into the back of the ambulance, Chan running after them. After seeing Chan's state, they let him in, insisting he had to warm up.
Chan refused, saying that Jeongin was the only one to worry about.
"I'll be fine." He insisted.
They eventually compromised, Chan getting a blanket draped around him, even though he insisted all of the others be given to Jeongin.
When they arrived at the hospital, Jeongin was wheeled to a room, Chan following, yelling at the doctor that he needed to be let in. They eventually let him in when he said he could help keep Jeongin warm.
Chan quietly pushed the door open, tears flowing from his eyes.
Chan had gotten significantly warmer, even though he had been in the water just as long as Jeongin had been. The doctors had told him that was because that it was because Jeongin was malnourished, and hadn't been eating properly in more than a year. Hearing that just made Chan feel more guilty, realizing that that was his fault.
Chan wiped his tears as he crawled into the small bed beside Jeongin, tightly wrapping his arms around him, pulling him closer in an attempt to warm him up. Against his will, he slowly began to drift off.
Chan woke up to something poking his cheek.
His eyes flew open.
There he saw Jeongin, awake but still frail, poking his cheek and smiling sadly.
Chan sat up, grinning. His hands flew to Jeongin's face, grabbing it and pulling it closer to him.
"You scared me so bad! Don't ever do that again!" Chan chuckled, his eyes filling with tears as he pulled Jeongin even closer to him.
"Why are you here, Chan? Aren't you supposed to be on your honeymoon?"
"She cheated on me. I never loved her in the first place, I love someone else. I should've told them." Chan mumbled as he kissed the crown of Jeongin's head.
"Then confess to them. Stop pretending that you care about me, it really hurts thinking you care, only to have you leave." Jeongin pulled away from Chan's embrace.
"Jeongin you don't understand! I love you, you idiot."
Jeongin stopped, his eyes widening as he stared open-mouthed at Chan.
"It's fine if you don't feel the sa-"
Jeongin interrupted Chan by pulling his face down to meet his, kissing him. Jeongin's lips were still cold.
Jeongin pulled away, placing himself back in Chan's arms.
"I love you too, Channie."
Jeongin was glad Chan had been quick enough to save him.
