Chan and Jeongin had been online friends for a few years now, and they had unknowingly grown feelings for one another. The only problem was that they had never met in person. Jeongin resided in Korea, while Chan lived in Australia. While there wasn’t much of a time difference, only a measly hour, it still got in the way occasionally and was a minor nuisance.
The two of them no longer talked through social media, instead chatting through text messages, phone calls, and occasionally face time. One of the biggest things they would discuss was Jeongin’s options for college, as the younger would constantly panic about his choices and Chan didn’t mind comforting Jeongin and calming him down.
However, Jeongin had recently chosen a college, and seemed to be overly giddy about his choice, and refused to tell Chan when he asked.
Chan realized that Jeongin would be constantly stressed and busy once he started college, so he made the decision that he would confess before Jeongin’s school year started, so that when Jeongin rejected him, he wouldn’t have to take time from studying and homework to talk to Chan.
So picking up his phone, he dialed Jeongin’s number, putting the phone up to his ear and waiting for it to stop ringing. Jeongin picked up after two rings, his voice sounding muffled by other voices around him as he gave a delighted greeting to Chan.
“Where are you? It’s so loud!” Chan exclaimed, chuckling a bit as he dropped himself into his desk chair and spun around.
“My parents took me out for lunch, the restaurant is a lot more crowded than we thought it would be. No worries though, we’re leaving soon!”
Chan nodded, before realizing that Jeongin couldn’t see him and humming in response.
“So what’d you call me for? Any particular reason?” Jeongin asked.
“Yeah, but just, tell me about your day first.” Chan slipped his shoes on and left his house, walking down the street and to the park near his apartment. Jeongin began to discuss his day, all the good parts and the bad, while Chan listened with a smile on his face.
Chan eventually heard the voices on the other line fade away, and he assumed Jeongin had left the crowded area, as he could now hear him more clearly.
Jeongin finished talking about his day, and Chan took that as his cue to confess.
“Uh- Jeongin?” Chan was hesitant. He really hoped this wouldn’t ruin their friendship. Jeongin was all he had.
“Yeah?”
“I... I like you. Not in a friend way.”
Chan heard the other line go flat as Jeongin hung up on him.
Chan’s eyes immediately filled with tears, as he crouched down on the pavement and choked back sobs.
He messed up.
In the midst of his crying, Chan didn’t hear the pounding footsteps behind him. He was suddenly knocked to the ground, the air being knocked out of him as he felt two arms wrap around his torso.
“I like you too, Channie.”
Looking up, he saw Jeongin on top of him, his luggage on the ground beside the two of them. He stared at Jeongin in shock, his eyes wide and mouth open.
“Oh... surprise! I’m going to college here!” Jeongin laughed nervously as he began to get off of Chan.
Chan finally processed the situation, and was quick to reach up and grab Jeongin’s face in his hands and pull him down into a kiss.
His lips tasted like strawberries.
Realizing they were kissing on the pavement of a local park, they separated, standing up. Chan pulled Jeongin into a tight embrace, nuzzling his face into Jeongin’s hair.
“You scared me so bad, Innie! I was so worried I had just ruined our friendship...” Chan muttered.
Jeongin giggled.
“Sorry Channie, I didn’t mean to! I just wanted to keep this as a surprise!”
Chan smiled, letting his arms slack around Jeongin before completely pulling away and grabbing one of Jeongin’s suitcases.
“Well, let’s head back to my place. Get you settled in.”
Jeongin nodded excitedly, grabbing the bag Chan hadn’t grabbed and following the older to his apartment.
