*Steve's point of view*
I woke up with the late winter sun brightening my room. My eyes fluttered open to see the continuously empty space next to me in bed. I huffed and sat up. I stretched my arms and my legs, which were still under my duvet. I swung my legs to the side of the bed and yawned as I stood up and made my way to the kitchen. I looked up at the clock as I passed it and I noticed the time. 8am. I'm late! I rushed back into the bedroom and immediately started getting dressed into some casual clothes to go out in. I rushed brushing my teeth and I ran out the door, locking it behind me.
I look at the clock in corridor and see its 8.15am. I have 15 minutes to get to the bottom floor. I waited for the elevator and stepped inside when the doors opened. There was a red head standing inside of it but I didn't notice her until the doors shut.
"Hey, Steve, you in a rush?" Nat asked. She looked beautiful as ever.
"Yeah, I'm supposed to be meeting Tony and I kind of woke up 20 minutes ago!" I laughed and she just rolled her eyes and laughed.
"Your the only man in this building that can get ready in 20 minutes! They all spend their time putting on their make up and styling their hair!" She laughed.
"Well I learned to get ready quickly from you!" I remarked and I saw that she was a bit taken aback from my mention of our past relationship. Although, she took it in her stride.
"You learned from the best then!" She smiled. I stared into her eyes and noticed a twinkle. She broke eye contact and turned to face the door.
"I did!" I smiled and she looked at me with surprise. The door opened at the 5th floor and Nat stepped out.
"See you around, Rogers. Just remember I do love you but just be patient." She said as she flicked her hair and walked off down the corridor. After the doors shut, I let out a deep breath that I didn't know I was holding. The floors counted down and soon I saw Tony sitting on a couch the other side of the lobby.
"Took your time, Roger's." He said as he looked up from the magazine he was reading.
"I'm early!" I defended myself but I smiled to make it known that I was being friendly. The main reason for going out for breakfast was to try and get our relationship back on track.
"Oh well!" He laughed and stood up. "Come on, the place I'm taking you to have the best breakfasts in New York!!" He said as we stepped out the door. The cold air hit us both but we continued walking. We got to a little cafe that was placed a few minutes away from the Tower. I can't remember the name of it but they definitely had the best breakfasts in NYC. All of the food was cooked to perfection and they had a wide variety of drinks available. I got Apple juice but Tony got some fancy smoothie.
"So, hows things with Romanoff?" He asked.
"Getting better and better everyday. I love her but I need to prove to everyone that I do love her. Everyone believes I'm not worthy of her which is true, but I want to be worthy of her. I want her to have someone she deserves. I know she loves me but we can't go back until she is ready. And I'm willing to wait. I regret what I did to her and I regret everything I said to everyone, but mostly to her. I know you may not believe me but I do love Natasha and I would do anything to gain her trust back. Anything." I looked at him and he was shocked by my eagerness to say that.
"I believe you. Steve, you hurt her bad and I know you'd do anything to make that right. Just be careful of her. She's still healing." He said, seriously.
"I did things that I regret in the passed year to try and make myself suffer for making Nat suffer. I know that sounds stupid but it seemed right at the time. I put myself on all of the deadly missions to make myself suffer." I remarked and stared down at my fingers.
"Steve, I know all you want to do is be with her, try not killing yourself in the process." I nodded but I disagreed. If it came to taking my life to save Nats, I would happily do so, knowing that she will live.We began walking back to the Tower after we split the bill and paid. Tony was rambling on about something that happened to him and Pepper and I zoned out. I saw a black van that looked very familiar parked outside of the Tower. I spent a few minutes studying it until we got to the lobby. There were men shouting at the receptionist so we went over to see what the problem was.
"Hey fellas. Settle down. What's the problem?" Tony asked.
"We need Natalia Romanova." Their accent was northern European. Wait, Natalia? That's Natasha!!
"Why do you require Natalia?" I asked before Tony could ask who she was.
"My boss wants to speak to her. He has many questions." He replied.
"Do you mean Natasha Romanoff?" Tony asked and I nudged him. Why did he tell them her real name?!? Well, no one knew about Natalia except for me.
"That's her American Name. You will bring her down before I go up." He threatened.
"Why should we do that?" I asked, stepping closer to square up to him.
"This receptionist is very pretty. She may lose that when a bullet goes through her skull." The man threatened and pointed a gun at the Receptionists Temple.
"Okay, Okay," I said as I looked down to see the Receptionists face.
"Get me Natalia!!" He yelled pressing the gun into he temple harder.
"Okay!!" I yelled back. I thought for a second before speaking again. "What are you going to do with her?"
"My boss wishes for her to return to Kiev." He stated. Wait, Kiev? That's where we held hostage last year! She is not going back to Ukraine. I looked at Tony who looked at me worried.
"Natalia!!" He yelled and I turned back around to face him.
"I have a proposal." I said and I could tell that both the men and Tony were confused. "Don't take her. Take me. I'm the one who escaped with her." Everyone stared at me.
"Steve, No!" Tony said as I said my idea.
"Tony, it's the only way." I raised my voice a little he understood the severity of the situation that Nat would be in.
"You will come with us. We will not take the girl." They said as they removed the gun from the Receptionists head and grabbed my arms. At that moment, the elevator pinged and Natasha stepped out and saw Steve being dragged through the Lobby. She started running to try and fight to break Steve free but Tony held her back.
"STEVE?!" She cried and I turned my head to see her crying and trying to get out of Tony's grip. I mouthed the words 'Its okay, I love you' to her and she stopped squirming in Tony's arms. I smiled as I was thrown into the back of the Black Van. I felt a sharp pain in my neck and I began drifting off. This was the right thing to do. Protect Natasha, at any cost.
All I could see was Black.
End of Breakfast
