Chapter 4: Questions with sad answers

Leo woke up to D staring at him from above, clinging to the ceiling.

"Good morning sleepy head!" She said smiling.

Leo rubbed his eyes and stretched.

"Good Mornin' D" Leo chirped, tossing the blanket off of himself.

D smiled and crawled down the wall until she could stand on the floor.

"So what shall we make for breakfast today mi amiga?" Leo asked.

"French toast!" D chimed without hesitation.

Leo smiled, D's constant resilience and excitement reminded him just of the one he'd lost before. He smiled.

"French toast it is then." Leo said patting D's head softly. He walked out of the open door and out into the hallway. D walked beside him happily.

"So, did you sleep ok?" D asked.

"Why do you ask?" Leo questioned.

"I wanted to try and make conversation.." d sighed.

"I slept ok.. you?" He asked.

"Like a baby.." D chirped with a big grin.

"That's good... so, what do you like on your French toast?" Leo asked.

"Well I've only had them once so I don't really know what to put on it.." d said starting to wonder about the possible combinations.

"Maybe some blueberry syrup? Do we have any?" D asked.

"No, but I can make some. " Leo said smiling widely.

-after the meal prep-

Leo sat D's plate in front of her.

"Tell me how it is.. You may enjoy it." Leo said with a big smile.

D hoisted her fork from the plate to her mouth, biting down softly. She smiled with starry eyes.

"It's amazing!" D exclaimed with a big grin.

"I'm glad you think so.." Leo said sitting down beside her. He began eating some leftovers

"So I wanted to talk to you.. because I'm really curious about you. But I won't make you answer anything you don't want to, ok?" D asked.

"What exactly are you wanting to know about me?" Leo asked.

"Well, everything.." d said smiling widely.

"Ok umm, my birthday is on Halloween.. I had two brothers and a sister.. I can drive, cook, clean, and entertain... oh I also know a lot about medicines. I have fire powers along with a few others that I can't quite name yet.." Leo began.

"What are some interesting things you've seen before?" D asked.

"Well.. I saw the American and French Revolution, fought in both. I also witnessed the Black Plague which was kinda cool but not.. oh, I was around for the renaissance, that shit was cool..." Leo began.

"Do you like pets?" D asked.

"Animals are my favorite. They just understand you more. Y'know?" Leo asked.

"Kids?" D asked.

"It's funny you ask. Back in the day, I was going to have kids.. but then everything with the plague happened and she caught it. So her and my first twin son and daughter were killed, although to be honest.. I don't know for sure if they were actually mine.." Leo sigh.

"Leo.. I'm so sorry I had no idea-" D began.

"Don't sweat it, it's ok. You didn't know." Leo said smiling.
