Mena's POV
I sat at the lunch table as I waited for Nina to if finish getting her food. My leg shook from anxiousness. All I could think about was Naomi.
"Hey stranger, everything alright?" Nina sat right in front of me.
"Yeah, it's all perfect now that you're here." Nina smiled as she tucked her hair behind her ear.
"You're sweet. I don't know how anyone ever let you go."
I sighed. "Yeah I don't now either." My eyes finally caught Naomi coming into the cafeteria. "So...when are you asking me on a date?"
Nina caught me off-guard. "Oh, sorry, it's been a long morning. Um, a date, well we can go to the movies or something."
"The movies sounds...fun but you seem like you're more creative than that."
"I guess, it depends really. But a simple chill date at the movies sounds good to me." I smiled at her.
"Yeah I suppose." I saw Nina follow Naomi with her eyes. "Wait... is she the girl that had sex scandal with Ray a few years back?"
I felt my heart drop. "Uhm, yeah I mean she didn't exactly have sex with him... how do you know about that?"
"Whatever same thing and how could I not, it was all over the place. Plus we did like elementary and middle school together I think. I remember when I moved for away for high school my friends told me she'd gone wild."
"How so?"
"Her parents were never around, her brother had just left for college with her best friend. I guess the loneliness just ate her up. I think she did drugs too and got caught. I don't know, there were so many rumors... are you sure thats that girl you dated? I mean, of course you're sure but, is it true what the people said, that she was all over the place."
"Look Naomi was... complicated but shes been through a lot and I know it's changed her. She's not a bad person, she just... lost her way."
"You can say that. I mean I guess it's just a matter of time before she goes wild again..." I saw her stare at Naomi again and whisper to herself. "Naomi huh?..."
"Let's hope you're wrong about that." I looked down to my feet, something felt weird.
"Okay, enough about this chick, lets talk food, what are you into?"
"I'm actually vegan, that's why I don't really eat at school."
"Vegan? Thats... interesting." She pressed her lips together.
"What is?"
"I mean, what do you eat?"
"Well, food obviously. Theres a lot you can do nowadays. Plus you help the environment."
"Yeah that's true, we can save the turtles."
"Sure... actually if you're interested we could go try vegan food, if you'd like."
Nina made a face. "I'll pass."
"Come on, you said you wanted an interesting date, here it is. It'll be totally fun I promise."
"Alright but if I don't like it you're so buying me iced coffee."
"Deal." I couldn't help but roll my eyes, she seemed so skeptical but I guess its just part of meeting someone new. "Look, I'm going to go play ball with the guys, I'll see you this afternoon?"
"Okay." I stood up from the table. "Hey Mena!" She pointed to her lips as she puckered them. I felt my body go tense. What were people going to say? Naomi was right there, but I couldn't say no to her. I turned back and cupped her face as I leaned in to give her a small peck. I quickly let go as I felt the cafeteria door slam, Naomi was nowhere to be seen.
