You could vaguely feel wet and cold.

Everything else was black.

...

"This isn't good..."

...

"Why am I the only one who remembers you?"

...

"AH!" A hiss of pain, "Get off me!"

...

"Y/N, help! Please!"

...

You looked down in awe at the bundle being cradled in your mother's arms. Your baby sister was here now! You could finally be a big sister, and play with her when she got older! You couldn't wait till she grew up!

"She's precious, isn't she?" Mama said, staring down with adoration at the baby in her arms.

"She couldn't be more," Papa agreed before leaning over to plant a kiss on your mama's cheek then bending further to kiss your new sister's forehead.

"Mia's so cute! I can't wait to play with her when we get home! We can watch Dora and Barbie together, and play ponies, and-"

"Hold on, kiddo," Papa stopped you, though his eyes were fond, "Mia isn't old enough to do that yet. Give her a year or so and you'll be able to do just that."

"Aw," You pouted, "Oh well, we'll be able to play in a year, then!"

The family huddled around the hospital bed, mama cradling the new life close to her chest. Everything was perfect.

...

It was Mia's third birthday. You watched with a smile on your face as you watched your little sister tear open the last present, revealing...

An Angelina Ballerina Dancing Doll! (Am I the only one who remembers this-)

Angelina Ballerina was Mia's favourite show. She had finally reached the age where her brain could process movies and play games, so when she saw the doll, her eyes lit up.

"Yay! Thanks, mama and papa!" On the spot, Mia started trying to ballerina dance, raising muffled giggles throughout the room.

"And guess what, Mia?"

"What, papa?"

"You get to go to kindergarten and make friends now!" Papa exclaimed excitedly.

Mia tilted her head, "Why I need mowe fwiends? I have you!" Mia can't pronounce her r's yet.

Mama made an 'aw' sound.

Papa chuckled under his breath before explaining, "You need more than just us, Mia. Soon you'll find a lot more people who will love you!"

Mia gave him a huge grin, "Really papa?"

"Really." He promised.

You smiled, "You'll love it! I remember my first day in kindergarten, I made so many friends! I'm sure you will, too!"

Mia's third birthday was probably the happiest in her short life.

...

You stood beside Mia as she stared up in a mixture of awe and fear.

"You'll do great, Mia!" You promised the tiny child.

Mia, now  6, was starting her first year of school. This was your last year in primary school before you went to high school. That would be scary. You could tell Mia was much more scared than you would be with entering highschool.
