'All according to plan'

"You've all done an excellent job at helping me fool the Lion Guard into thinking we're all idiots. Thanks to you, everything is going according to plan."

You covered your mouth and nose with a paw to quiet your breathing. What the heck was going on?

"Asani, Jabali, I would like to thank you for digging out these surprisingly convenient tunnels. Now it is possible for us to access the Pridelands," Two hyenas standing next to each other yipped happily at Janja's approval.

Wait... So these two had dug out the hollow trench thing which had collapsed beneath you?

"Shomari, you did an excellent job watching for the activity of that thing in the Pridelands the other day without getting caught by the Lion Guard, however, if you don't get followed again that would be an improvement."

Your eyes widened when you recognized the hyena you had followed that day nod his head.

"That thing?" Kion whispered in confusion. You shook your head, not knowing what he was talking about either.

You crept closer to the exit, trying to get a good look. Kion sent you a warning look, which you ignored.

Janja sat in front of a pack of about 20 hyenae, with Cheezi and Chungu on his right and left. Janja had a strange air about him, different than you'd ever felt before. He seemed so much more calculating, like an anime villain, much different than the Janja you knew from Mia's show. You felt...intimidated. Even more so from the other day when that happened.

"Cheezi, Chungu, thank you for helping me attack that pathetic excuse for a lion. If most of the lions are like she was, it will be quite easy to get rid of them, unless she was just dumb." Oh, Janja was referring to you. You felt... Insulted.

Wait... Was? Did he think you were dead? If that was true, maybe you could use that to your advantage.

"Everyone else, you all know what to do. Keep training your body to be strong enough to take on a lion. I am going to make sure that my father, Ed, will have his dreams of taking over the Pridelands accomplished. And better yet, our lifelong dream of a never-ending all-you-can-eat-buffet will come true!"

The hyenas cheered.

"Um, Boss Janja?" A younger hyena spoke up, slightly nervous.

"Yes," Janja prompted.

"Can we please go over the plan? I just need to make sure that I remember it properly."

"Yes, of course, but that will have to be another time. We can't let the little rats overhear our plan," Janja glared straight in our direction.

Your heart dropped to your stomach, "Oh no."

"After them!" You heard Janja roar and the thunder of hyenas running after you. You froze up in fear.

"Y/N!" Kion ran over to you and dragged you by the scruff to get you back to your senses, "Run!"

You took off running, only the thought: I'mgonnadieI'mgonnadieI'mgonnadie! In your head.

A flashback came out of nowhere.

Mia, about 6, sobbing into your shirt. "What did mama mean, 'Daddy's not here anymore?' He's going to come back, right?"
