(So, for this chapter I had to go look back at the original book to try and see what was happening with their chemistry. Spoiler alert: There's no real chemistry. :/ So now, an awkward teenager has to figure out what makes real chemistry... Even after reading heaps of shojo manga. Ugh I HAVE NO MOTIVATION TO WRITE)

You smiled (slightly awkwardly) at Kion and tried to think of conversation topics. You really hated small-talk, but this was the best you could do until you knew each other well enough.

"What do you usually do when you don't have guard duty?" You asked.

You were actually curious to see how different a teenage lion spent his free time rather than humans. When you had free time, you usually spent it watching anime or looking at memes on the internet. (Sorry for assuming, but considering that y'all are here on Wattpad...) But now, being a lion, you'd have to figure out how to find your own fun. Maybe listening to Kion would give you ideas.

"Well, I usually just sleep. Guard duties are so tiring that it's pretty much all I can do," Kion said, glancing at the ground with a slight look of sadness in his eyes, "But if I'm not sleeping I'm hanging out with my friends. We play games and stuff when we can."

You smiled a little, "Sounds like fun."

The part about needing to sleep all of the time made you feel a little sad though, it made you remember yesterday. Kion looked so tired. You'd passed it off as him not being a morning person, but in reality, being the leader of the guard was working him to the bone.

"What about you?" Kion asked.

You smiled as a feeling of tenderness took over you with a memory, "I usually play with Mia. She makes up the most amazing stories and games, but since she is a lot younger than me it is usually hard to keep her under control. But things are kind of hard for mom, so I have to help her a lot. When I'm not though, I'm.." you tried to think of something that wasn't anime, "Hanging with my friends."

"You must really love Mia," Kion mused, "You talk about her all the time."

You blushed in slight embarrassment, "Well, yeah. It's my responsibility to take care of her now, I promised my dad to protect her with everything I have... but now we're apart," your mood shifted, "and I don't know if she's okay... and I broke my promise."

You felt a lump form in your throat and you mentally screamed at it to go away. It would be so embarrassing if you started crying in front of him.

"Hey, I'm sure your sister is okay. From the way you're describing her, I think she'll be alright," Kion consoled you.

"Well, yeah, but..." You couldn't finish the sentence. You weren't telling him everything. You didn't know how your sister could take you being gone, especially after the incident. Who would be there to cheer her up after coming home from being bullied at school all day? Yeah, mom was there, but... could she really be okay?

"It's nice how much you love your sister," Kion said, "I would pay more attention to Kiara myself, but she's always with dad getting queen lessons or hanging out with her friends and I'm doing guard duties."

"Kiara's a really nice girl."

"Yeah, she is, just don't tell her I said that."

"Alright," You promised, unable to contain the humour in your voice.

"So..." Kion said after a long pause, "Why'd you help that zebra even though it put yourself at risk? I was just wondering..."

You tilted your head, furrowing your brows as you thought about it. He was right, why did you..?
