I just drew this because I thought it would help you guys visualize a scene further down. Don't mind my terrible signature 😅)
...
You and Kion entered the darkness of the tunnel, you treaded along as the light dimmed.Your chest tightened as the pitch blackness swallowed you whole. You closed your eyes breathed in deeply through the mouth to calm yourself down. You didn't want Kion to know how pathetic you were, after all, only small children found the dark scary. After a few seconds, you opened your eyes. They had adjusted to the darkness at last, and it didn't seem as bad as when you were human, luckily.
However, you couldn't get the lingering fear of the dark out of your head. You took a shuddering breath, not realizing it was out loud.
"Hey, Y/N? Are you still dizzy? We can go back if you want." Kion asked in concern from in front of you.
"Oh, um, no, I'm fine. Thanks for asking, though." Shoot. Your voice was all timid.
Your dizziness wasn't what was fazing you, that's for sure.
"Wait..." Oh no, Kion sounded very sly, "Are you... scared of the dark?"
Shoot. He got you.
"Uh.. pfffffft, nooooo, not at all! What are you talking about?"
Smooth, Y/N, smooth.
Kion snickered, "Well, that's one more thing I found out about you."
"Well-Well!" You gave up, "Okay, you know now, but it's my turn now. What are you scared of?" You asked teasingly.
"Hm... well, I guess I'm scared of failure."
You were surprised at his blunt honesty. Well, of course, he'd be so honest, he is such a nice guy and the leader of the Lion Guard.
"Failure... You're scared of failing to protect the Pridelands?" You guessed.
"Yeah, I mean, I already talked to you about it the other day, but I still don't feel right... This is my responsibility. I know that there are others defending the Pridelands, but a lot of the responsibility is on me, since I'm the leader. I know it might look easy to everyone else, but it's not... So many lives depend on me to protect them, but if I can't..."
Kion was pouring his heart out to you. Kion was right, you had no idea that it was this hard for him. After all, the TV show had made it look easy nearly every time. You felt really bad for him.
You set aside the tight feeling in your chest from the seemingly endless darkness and caught up to him.
"Hey, Kion... I think you're doing an amazing job at being a leader. I have no idea how hard it must be having to protect all these pe-uh, animals and still have to act like it's okay. I'm not great with advice, but maybe if you talk to the guard about it you'll feel better? Everybody has their ups-and-downs, but I'm sure it will work out."
Kion breathed in deeply, "Alright. I'll talk to the rest of the guard. Thanks for hearing me out, again."
You smiled, "You can talk to me as much as you want, I don't mind."
"Thank you."
You both kept walking, talking about several different topics and making jokes.
Until Kion stopped in his tracks.
"What's wrong?" You asked.
"You can't see?" Kion asked in confusion, "Oh well, you're pretty well-known for not being lion-like... There's a cross-road up ahead. I'm just deciding what's safest."
