Okay, so apparently this is what an African Cucumber looks like. It's for later.
Still Fuli's P.O.V
"Beshte, please get me some of those leaves from over there. No, not those ones! Yes, that's right." Rafiki said.
"Fuli, come here and press down hard on her ear," Rafiki ordered.
I was confused, but went over and did as he'd instructed. "Won't that hurt her more?" I asked.
"Yes," Rafiki admitted, "but it is the best way to stop her ear from bleeding more while I make the herbs."
"Will... Will she be alright?" Kion asked in concern.
"Of course she will!" Rafiki declared, "Are you doubting my abilities?"
At this rate after enduring Rafiki's antics for much of my life, I wasn't that surprised when Rafiki abruptly stopped making the ointment just to whack Kion on the head with his stick.
"Ow!" Kion hissed, "No, I'm not doubting you."
Rafiki nodded, "Good." Then went back to work.
Kion seemed to realize something, "Hey, Beshte, Ono? Would you two get Bunga and keep patrolling the Pridelands? Janja could come back at any minute."
Ono, who had been staring quietly at the scene nodded right away. "Affirmative! Come on, Beshte. Hapana!"
He then took flight and flew outside. Beshte started moving towards the exit but turned to briefly stare at Y/N in sadness.
"Make sure she'll be okay, alright?" He asked softly before turning to follow Ono.
I realized that he had been Y/N's first friend when she arrived in the Pridelands and how sad this must be for him, despite only knowing her for a few days. Rafiki started mumbling to himself in some crazy language that not even his own species could translate.
"So," I spoke up, "Why'd you stay here, Kion?"
Kion had a mixed expression of sadness and guilt on his face. "I feel responsible," he confessed, "For not being able to notice that hyena and the zebra and not being able to protect her."
I sighed, "Hey, it wasn't yours or anyone's fault, Kion. Think on the bright side, the zebra is unharmed and Y/N is... alive."
"Yeah, I guess..." Kion agreed half-heartedly.
I glanced down to look at Y/N. The paw which I was pressing down on her ear was pretty much covered in blood, making my paw feel hot, sticky and wet. I fought back the urge to cringe. Y/N's breathing was harsh, coming out in wheezes, but other than that her breathing was at a fairly normal pace. The girl's golden fur was matted and soggy from both the blood and the water. I noticed she was shivering.
"Oh, Rafiki? She's shivering, what should I do?"
Rafiki looked up from the strange concoction he was creating, "Move her into the sun. Kion, help her. Be careful not to injure her." Then he went back to what he was doing.
Kion nodded and walked over. We both reached down and slowly dragged her by the scruff into the sun. I sat beside her, not knowing what to do now other than to keep putting pressure on her ear. I gave a sad side-glance to my leader, who was looking at Y/N.
I could tell he still felt overly responsible for what happened, and I wouldn't lie, I felt a little responsible too. She's a citizen of the Pridelands now, so we're supposed to protect her! If we couldn't do that, what kind of animals are we?
Rafiki stopped his crazy mumbling, picked up his scary-looking concoction of herbs and strode over. I removed my paw from her ear. He dipped his hand into the hollowed-out African cucumber which he was using as a bowl, took out his hand and started smearing the goopy herb concoction onto Y/N's ear. I wrinkled my nose in disgust at the tangy smell of the herbs. (Sorry, I don't know what to call a bowl since she is an animal with no human utensil knowledge.)
Rafiki finished smearing the goop on her ear then stepped back. "There, she'll probably wake up tomorrow. You two can run along now."
I glanced at Kion and he nodded at me, an understanding passing through the both of us.
"Well, bye Rafiki," I said.
"Mind if we stop by again tomorrow?" Kion chimed in.
Rafiki was now sitting on top of one of the branches of the baobab tree, "No, no, not at all."
As we turned to leave, I realized how much more serious Rafiki was than usual.
Kiara's POV, the next day
"What?!"
"Yeah, Kiara, it's true."
"Why didn't you tell me yesterday?" I demanded.
"Well- when we got back to Pride Rock yesterday I was so tired I just went to sleep," Kion explained, embarrassment in his tone.
I rolled my eyes, "So she's in Rafiki's tree, then."
"Well, yeah."
"How...how bad is her injury?" I asked, worried about the new friend I had just made.
"It's nothing too bad, but her ear was..well..ripped off."
I winced at the mental image and for a while, all I could do was stare at our surroundings in shock. The sky was a pale orange, almost fully-risen, and Kion and I stood on the ledge of Pride Rock overlooking the Pridelands.
"So, can I go see her?" I asked.
"Yeah, sure, but not right now. Fuli and I were going to go check on her at midday, why don't you join us? We'll come to get you," Kion suggested.
I nodded, feeling slightly depressed from the heavy feeling in my heart at my friend's injury. I turned away to go find Tiifu and Zuri. Maybe when Y/N gets better I should introduce her to them.
A few hours later, the sun was fully up. Fuli, Kion and I were walking to see Rafiki. Apparently Beshte had gone to see Y/N earlier and during his visit, she had woken up, so hopefully, I'd get to see her awake.
"I'm glad she's better," Fuli said.
"Yeah," Kion agreed, "We might not know each other very well yet but she seems really nice."
"She isn't completely better yet," I reminded them, "She still has a long way to go. The only difference is that she's alive and probably awake right now."
Fuli looked at her feet, "True."
"I'm sure she'll get better quickly, she's a strong young lioness," Kion said.
I nod confidently, "I have no doubt about that."
Sorry, it's a short chapter. I didn't have much inspiration or any idea what to write about. I just realized I still don't know how I'm going to get Kion and Y/N's relationship going. I mean, it's been what, 17 chapters and I still haven't really gone anywhere. They're still only acquaintances right now. I mean, I know I should try doing what the description of this thing says, but Y'know.
